WHAT DOES THE PICTURE TELL?

The picture tells us that water is a needed necessity in our lives. A lot of people don’t really have
an easy access to water in their own homes. They still need to fetch water from any available source of
water within their area. Even children need to gather these waters for them to be used in cooking,
drinking, and even bathing. Clean water has always been an important and we must do anything to get
these.

WHAT IS THE MOTIF?

This picture was taken in an eye level angle and at an open mid-shot that focuses on the
subjects and that helps in telling what this is about. The red color at the back of the subjects gives off a
vibe of being passionate on what they do. There is gray that shows the depressing situation of water
gathering and shortage for some people of all ages. There is also white that depicts simplicity of the
picture.

HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOU AND THE VIEWERS?

It affected me and the viewers by opening our eyes that getting water is not easy for some
people. It is hard because they need to get water even though it’s so hot outside and the sun is at its
peak. It also made me realize that I should be grateful that I didn’t experience this and I can easily get
my water that I need to use. It also shows that water is important that people will fetch it for them to
use. It made me realize that getting water is not easy as just opening the faucet for some people. Some
still needs to find a source of water, may it be far from their homes.
WHAT DOES THE PICTURE TELL?
The picture tells us death, crime, and inhumane acts. One of the news in the television that I
often see for years now is the extrajudicial killings done in the country in their war against drugs. In the
picture, you can see a cardboard box that has words written on it that says, “Pusher ako, huwag
tularan.” The picture also shows the pain in losing someone dear to you. There are also spectators that
are curious and shocked on what the scene was.

WHAT IS THE MOTIF?

The picture was taken at an open mid-shot to fully show that whole scene. The colors in this are
black, gray, and blue. The black color shows death, and gray depicts the mood of the scene as
depressing. It also has blue color that represents sadness since a loved one died. Overall, the motif of
this picture is gloomy and sad since someone died due to the injustice and improper way of dealing
with people that may or may not really connected with drugs.

HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOU AND THE VIEWERS?

It affected me and the viewers in a way that I felt angry because of the bad justice system and
on how they are dealing with people that are connected to drugs that mostly poor people are the ones
getting killed, without even proper protocol. Some also abuses their powers and just kill whoever they
want to label someone as “Pusher”. The viewers may also get scared because they don’t know
something like this may happen near them or a worst-case scenario like a relative may get killed.
WHAT DOES THE PICTURE TELL?
The picture tells that it is advertising a product, Dove, when used, will make you white. It shows
a black woman turning into a white woman after using the product. This is false advertisement since it’s
not how it works. It also belittles people with dark skin, saying that you need to be white in order to be
considered as clean.

WHAT IS THE MOTIF?

Each photo in the collaged was taken at a close mid-shot. Let’s say, brown is natural and white
is purity in this photo. The model is also gazing at their audience, even though it’s just a photo, telling
them to try it out. The overall motif is kind of disturbing since they made it look like you need to be this
certain white in order to be considered as beautiful or to be accepted. That is being racist.

HOW DOES IT AFFECT YOU AND THE VIEWERS?

It affected me and the viewers that it frustrates me that they came up with this kind of
advertisement without consulting people of color if someone would be offended or hurt. It also affects
the judgements of the viewers if ever they would but this product and try it for themselves thinking the
results would just be like the advertisement. I also don’t like it when people tend to force themselves to
become a certain beauty just to be accepted by the society trying different products that may or may
not affect them. Simply to say, we just need a society where one can be accepted even if they have
flaws or in a different race.
