The focus of Third Republic is on the rehabilitation of the school systrem which
was in keepimng with the policies of the government. 80% of the schools were ruined;
the caused of reconstruction was 120million and the annual deficit is 200 million.
According to Carlos P. Garcia “No less significant are the strides made in public
education”. In addtion, the vernacular is now being use as a medium of instruction in
the first two years of the primary grades, thereby promoting optimim literacy, specially
among those pupils who can stay in school for only a few years. The concept of
academic freedom is that only universities were established by the state and religious
instruction in the public schools. Hence, for those who posess a certain level of
capabilty for academic studies are unable to afford teh cost of college education. Lastly,
moral character , behavior and relationship with others is their educational practices.

 Reflection

Basic Education

One of the most important aspects of one's life is education. It enables a person
to realize his or her worth as a living being. It provides wonderful opportunities for man
to learn more about himself and to adapt to the many different changes that are taking
place around him. Man finds satisfaction in answering the world's many questions by
education. Education is vital to one's survival. When I compared education in the past to
education today, I noticed that educational objectives were already established. From
the American period, a free primary school was built, as well as a school for Filipino
teachers. It advocated for the hiring of qualified teachers in the United States. It
eliminated religious education as a requirement. In terms of the students, I had learned
that in the past, the majority of the students were males. Students were mostly males
from an early age, owing to the belief that men are more useful than women, particularly
in military and political matters. It is for this reason that men receive more education
than women. From the past up to the present, females have had the opportunity to be
educated and express themselves. Now, I've noticed that the females succeed in a
variety of areas. In terms of instructional approaches, I believe it was all memorization
and analysis of texts in the beginning. The center on the stage is the teacher. He or she
is the central figure in the educational phase. No one may doubt the information that
comes from him/her because he/she is the source of all knowledge. However, now that
we are in a modern era of education, the learning approach is student-centered, which
means that the student is the one who provides the knowledge or points of discussion.
The teacher, who used to be the center on the stage, is now the support or guidance.
The students themselves are unlocking the lesson, and the teacher can simply process
it later. In terms of curriculum, I discovered that at a young age, the emphasis was on
hunting, fishing, songs, poetry, and dances.

Higher Education

The Americasns provided opportunities for young Filipino students to pursue

higher education in American colleges and universities. Since their education in the
United States was paid for by the Philippine government, these Filipinos were known as
"pensionados." Filipinos enter the public and private schools because of lack of
information. Education tended to receive the same level of attention from the
Commonwealth government as it did from the Americans. During the Commonwealth
era, an organized attempt to create a common national language was launched in
accordance with the 1935 constitution's mandate. President Quezon promoted the
preservation of native culture as well as desirable Filipino values to help counter the
American cultural influence among Filipinos. President Quezon issued his famous Code
of Ethics, which was required to be taught in all schools, to help strengthen the moral of
Filipinos and to foster love of country, particularly among the youth. The Japanese have
used schools and churches as propaganda instruments. The Japanese language,
Nippon-go, was made a mandatory subject in all schools. In Nippon-go, classes were
opened to spread the Japanese language and culture. Japanese Catholic priests were
dispatched to the Philippines to promote the idea that, as an Asian nation, Japan was a
friend to all Asians, including the Filipinos. Land reform, taxation, economic production,
anti-drug and anti-pollution education, and environmental education have all been
introduced with educational policies in order to achieve improved manpower production.
However, in the "new society," the term was often linked to martial law. Now, in modern
learning, The K-12 curriculum aims to provide every child with the education they need
to thrive in a global setting, which means that it covers all facets of human life and
prepares students for the global challenges that the world poses.
