COMPETENCY CODE LEARNING COMPETENCY

M7NS-la-1 Describe well-defined sets, subsets, universal

sets, and the null set and cardinality of sets.

I. OVERVIEW OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Learners have performed activities which allowed them to demonstrate understanding of the sets
and real number system. They were given opportunities to represent sets, subsets, and set
operations and illustrate the difference of two sets.

The succeeding activities deepen the learners’ skills in involving problems on sets specially those
real-life situations.

II. ASSESSMENT CRITEARIA

Knowledge
Learners demonstrate understanding of sets and real number system.

Skills
Learners will be able to solve real-life problem involving sets.

III. ASSESSMENT METHODS (Put an x mark on the blank where appropriate.)

__X__ Observation __X__ Analyses of learners’ product

__X__ Tests _____ Talking to learners

IV. ASSESSMENT ACTIVITY

Give the learners the following directions:

1. Individually, do the Exercise 1 (Priming) to assess the prior knowledge to the lesson.
Discuss the work to your seatmate. Collaborate with seatmate by the differences and
similarity of the work. Learners will discuss their assessment on differences and similarity
of their work to their classmate.
2. The learners do Exercise 2 (Independent Activity). The teacher discusses the solution to
the task. Exchange the work to their respective seatmate for checking then review the
correct and incorrect answer.
3. The teacher group the class into 5 groups. The group task is to answer Exercise 3 ( Group
Activity). Each group present their work in whole class. The grade will be based on
assessment criteria.

V. RECORDING METHODS (Put an x mark on the blank where appropriate.)

_____ Checklists (See attached) _____ Marks

_____ Class grids _____ Anecdotal records
__X__ Grades _____ Comments on learners’ work
_____ Portfolios _____ Self-assessment records
_____ Audio recording, photographs, video
footages

VI. MAKING CONSISTENT JUDGEMENTS (Put an x mark on the blank where appropriate.)

__X__ Rubric linked to the assessment criteria

_____ Marks scheme linked to the assessment
criteria

VII. FEEDBACK ( Put an x mark on the blank where appropriate.)

__X__ Oral feedback from peers/teacher/others

_____ Written feedback from
peers/teacher/others. (See attached written
feedback sheet.)
_____ Self – reflection

Exercise 1: Priming

A. Group the following objects and label each of the group that you formed base on their
common characteristics.

B. Answer the following questions:

a. How many groups did you formed?
b. Do all the objects belong to a group?
c. Are these objects that belong to two or more groups?

Exercise 2: Independent Activity

A. Complete the table below by identifying the kind of set and determining the set cardinality
of each of the given sets. (The first item are done for you.)
Set Infinite, Finite or Empty Set Cardinality
1. A = {1, 2, 3, 4} Finite 4
2. B = {x I x is a positive even integer} Infinite ∞
3. C = {y I y is a color of the rainbow}
4. D = {z I z is a month that has only 21
days}
5. E = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, …}
6. G = {b I b is a female president of the
Philippines}
7. H = {x I x is an odd number that is
divisible by 7}
8. I = {y I y is the day of the week that
starts with the letter R}
9. J = {x I x is an even factor of 19}
10. K = {x I x is a whole number less than 7}

Exercise 3: Group Activity

A. In each of the following pairs of sets, draw a Venn diagram and determine the intersection
and union of the given sets.

1. A = {3, 6, 9, 12}
B = {6, 8, 9}

A∩B=
