“St. Francis Xavier, a welcoming faith community lovingly sharing the gifts of God.”

5TH SUNDAY OF LENT

APRIL 10TH, 2011
PRAYERS FOR THE DECEASED: We pray for our loved ones who have died recently.
PRAYERS FOR THE SICK AND SHUT-IN: “Let us raise up in prayer those who seek God’s healing
love, those at the hospital, hospice and at home especially Elva Curry and Rita Boldt.
May your struggle be consoled by Christ’s love“.
GOOD FRIDAY LITURGY: The unique celebration of the Passion of Jesus Christ is celebrated universally
at 3:00 p.m. throughout the world. It recalls the hour that traditionally is honoured as the hour that Je- Je-
sus died. We do not celebrate Eucharist following our Holy Thursday liturgy of the Institution of the
Mass until we celebrate Jesus’
Jesus’ resurrection at Easter.
Consequently, our celebration of the Passion is truly unique.
This year we have a special children’s
children’s liturgy for all of our pre-
pre-school and school age children. It will take
place at the same time as our liturgy in the church. We will all gather at 3:00 p.m. in the church to walk
this Way of the Passion and Cross of Christ.
PERU MISSION: Members of our Parish who went to Peru to mission our faith through efforts
to assist and rebuild have a story of joy to share with us. In the main entrance of the church is a
picture story of how your generosity has assisted the Peruvian people. Our ticket sales on the table
cloths went a long way in bringing about a water project.
Our local “missionaries” are planning a few fundraising events in the near future and hope that we
can again provide essentials to our sisters and brothers in Peru.
CHRISM MASS: Bishop Mulhall extends a warm welcome to all members of the Diocese to join in
the celebration of the Chrism Mass on Tues., April 19th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Columbkille’s Cathedral,
Pembroke. St. Francis Xavier has, in the past, had a good representation at this Mass and we
hope many of you will be able to attend this Diocesan celebration this year.

Catechetical Programs for Children in Iraq
Catechetical programs in Iraq seek to empower youth who, due to the breakdown of
civil society and violence, are psychologically affected and deprived of a normal
childhood. Despite security concerns, programs are held regularly with the cooperation
of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary and local parishes. Programs consist of weekly
classes and lectures, retreats and other spiritual activities together. Our Lenten collection will
assist children of all ages, providing them with education and formation in a caring environment.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION PROGRAM – RENFREW ZONE – “Cultivating Seeds of Faith”

The topic for the final presentation in this series is “Mary and Her Role in the Life of
the Church” which will be presented by Tony Consentino on Thursday, April 14 th at
7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish Hall, Braeside.

tickets at the entrances of the church THIS WEEKEND. If you have not picked up tickets, please take
this opportunity to do so as the lottery is a major fundraiser for our Parish. Your help is very much
appreciated and gets us closer to our goal of a sell out! If you have any questions or comments please
