6 1 INTRODUCTION

1 INTRODUCTION
The LELY CENTRONIC II is an electronic control system for setting the application rates of CENTERLINER
S/SL/SE/SX Fertilizer Spreaders.
The control system comprises of:
• an operator’s box (A, fig. 1) A
• a terminal block (B)
• an actuator control box (C)
• a forward speed sensor (E) with code disc
E
• an actuator (F) for controlling the feed
assembly C
• a sensor (G) for measuring the spinner disc ®
CENTRONIC II
speed.
The system may be extended with the LELY
G
CENTERMATIC weighing device*.
The CENTERMATIC weighing device is placed
between the tractor and the CENTERLINER B
spreader (or another machine). The trailed CEN-
TERMATIC weighing device is incorporated
into the carriage.
Depending on the model, the maximum admis-
® F
sible load is 3000 kg or 4300 kg. CENTERMATIC
The CENTRONIC control system automatically
adjusts the shutter position of the feed assembly 1
to the value which ensures the output required.
If the forward speed changes, the shutter position is adjusted automatically.
Without use of the CENTERMATIC weighing device, the shutter position is established on the basis of the
forward speed during spreading and of the data fed into the system. Such data may have been derived from the
output charts or may be the result of calibration tests.
The CENTERMATIC weighing device weighs permanently, also during driving. The shutter position is based
on the decrease of weight, as well as on the forward speed during spreading.
The CENTERMATIC weighing device brings about an adjustment of the shutter position if the output flow
changes. A discrepancy in the anticipated decrease of weight, caused by a change of output flow, is detected
immediately. The shutter position is then adjusted automatically.
Such application rates as have been adjusted may also be decreased or reduced (up to 50%) during spreading.
The CENTRONIC control system provides useful information such as:
• spinner disc speed;
• shutter position of feed device;
• forward speed;
• area worked;
• distance covered;
• weight of material applied (without CENTERMATIC: calculated/with CENTERMATIC: effective);
• weight of fertilizer in hopper (only when using CENTERMATIC).
The CENTRONIC can also be applied as an onboard computer for other types of equipment.
For speed measuring purposes, the (pulse) signal of a radar sensor or tractor speedometer can also be used (see
supplement C).

10 5 FERTILIZER SETTING FACTOR

5 FERTILIZER SETTING FACTOR

The CENTRONIC control system adjusts the shutter position in such a way that the required quantity of
fertilizer is put out effectively. Fertilizer outflow speeds also have an effect on the required shutter position.
Outflow speeds may differ from one kind of fertilizer to the other. In addition to this, circumstances such as
humidity have an effect on the outflow properties of fertilizers.
Therefore, the CENTRONIC control system operates with a setting factor. This factor can be regarded as a
comparison basis between average granulated fertilizers (adjustment factor 100) and the specific fertilizer to
be applied. It characterizes the difference in outflow speed.

The accuracy with which the output required is applied depends, to a large extent, upon the setting factor that
was programmed.
If the CENTRONIC control system is used together with the CENTERMATIC weighing device, any difference
between the pre-programmed setting factor and the effective factor will be adjusted automatically. Therefore,
a difference in the output rate can only occur at the early stage of the spreading operation.
If the CENTRONIC control system is used only, a difference between the pre-programmed setting factor and
the effective factor will lead to a constant, proportional discrepancy in the output rate.

Supplement E specifies the setting factors for a number of fertilizers.

These factors, however, remain approximative since circumstances such as humidity, different granular size
etc. may affect the setting factor of the fertilizer you are going to spread.

For this reason it is recommended, if at all possible, to carry out an output check when you operate without the
CENTERMATIC weighing device. The output check takes place during programming of the CENTRONIC
control system in the position AUTO (C); see next page. You then ensure the correct setting factor for the
fertilizer you are going to spread.
If you establish a difference in your output rate while working, you can make an adjustment by changing the
setting factor proportionally. If, for instance, the output is 10% too high, the setting factor should be decreased
by 10%.

When using the CENTERMATIC weighing device, the setting factor listed in the chart is sufficiently accurate.
A discrepancy, if any, is put right automatically by the CENTRONIC control system .
If a reliable setting factor is not known, a dynamic output check is recommended. This check is carried out
during the first spreading pass and ensures that the correct setting factor is established quickly. Please refer to
®
“6.5 Dynamic output check (CENTERMATIC )” for further details.
®
6 USE OF THE CENTRONIC 11

®
6 USE OF THE CENTRONIC
The CENTRONIC offers the following application possibilities:

Fertilizer application with automatic output adjustment (position AUTO)

AUTO (C) = CENTRONIC control system only connected
AUTO (CM) = CENTRONIC control system and CENTERMATIC weighing device connected
The shutters of the feed device automatically adjust to the position which ensures the output rate set
beforehand. Consequently, there is a consistent fertilizer output, irrespective of changes in forward speed.
If the CENTERMATIC weighing device is used in the AUTO (CM) status, the output required is put right in
case there should be any discrepancy and/or variation in the outflow speed of the fertilizer.
When in the position AUTO, the CENTRONIC control system also operates as an onboard computer. Data
about area worked, distance covered etc. can be retrieved via the display.
• The adjustment range of the CENTRONIC control system in the position AUTO lies between 50 and 2,000
kg/ha. For minor or major output rates you have to switch to the position HAND.
This position only allows the application of fertilizer at shutter position 3A and upwards. For a shutter
position lower than 3A: select a higher forward speed and/or a larger working width.
• The adjustment range of the setting factor in the position AUTO lies between 50 and 200. If the setting
factor required is beyond this range, the HAND status needs to be used for spreading.

Fixed shutter adjustment (position HAND)

The shutters are opened up to the programmed position. This possibility can be used if the output rate and/or
setting factor are beyond the range of fertilizer application with automatic output rate adjustment. When in the
position HAND, the CENTRONIC control system also operates as an onboard computer.

Opening and closing of shutters (position OPEN/CLOSE)

In the position OPEN/CLOSE, the shutters can be completely opened and closed, for instance in order to be
able to empty and/or clean the hopper.

Use as an onboard computer for an other machine (ONBOARD position)

This application is possible if the spreader’s actuator control box is not connected. Data such as area worked,
distance covered etc. can be retrieved via the display.

12 6 USE OF THE CENTRONIC

When using the CENTRONIC control system, a distinction is made between the programming mode and the
operation mode.
®
In the programming mode [please refer to “6.2 Programming of the CENTRONIC (Programming mode)”],
data such as setting factor, output rate, working width, etc., can be fed into the system and/or modified whilst
further other possibilities of operation (operating procedure) can be set.
The CENTRONIC control system registers all data of the previous operation. These parameters are used for
each new operation, unless you enter new data in the programming mode.
All operations of the CENTRONIC control system are carried out in the operation mode [please refer to “6.3
®
Operation of the CENTRONIC (Operation mode)”].

6.4 Use of the CENTRASIDE 33

6.4 Use of the CENTRASIDE

Headland spreading can be done by tilting the CENTERLINER spreader or by using the CENTRASIDE
headland spreading device.
Such functions as are related to the CENTRASIDE headland spreading device are only operative if it was
®
mentioned during the basic intallation (see “4 Basic installation of the CENTRONIC ”) that a CENTRASIDE
headland spreading device was fitted.
If the CENTRASIDE headland spreading device is used, the
CENTERLINER spreader’s outflow rate changes (LH shutter
uncoupled).
Consequently, you have to press the button for headland
spreading (C) for adjusting the CENTERLINER spreader
from full field application to headland spreading.
This enables the CENTRONIC control system to work out the
correct calculations of quantities put out, area worked etc.
A switch of operation is only possible if the CENTRONIC
control system is in the stand-by position and if the forward A B
speed is zero. C D
When the system was set for headland spreading, the green
light in the button is burning. In addition to this, the
CENTRONIC control system gives a short acoustic signal
(approx. 6 times a minute) to emphasize this special setting.

The CENTRASIDE headland spreading device itself should be operated in accordance with its relevant
Operator’s Manual.

If you are going to carry out headland spreading by tilting the CENTERLINER spreader, the outflow rate
remains the same. In that case, the CENTRONIC control system’s adjustment for full field spreading needs to
be maintained during headland spreading.

34 6.5 Dynamic output check (CENTERMATIC )

®
6.5 Dynamic output check (CENTERMATIC )
The aim of the dynamic output check is to establish the correct setting factor quickly.
This check is strongly recommended if a reliable setting factor of the fertilizer to be spread is not known,
especially if a minor output rate is required.
The starting- and final weight are established at the start of the spreading test and after having covered a
certain distance. The setting factor is calculated on the basis of the output and working width required, as well
as of the outcome of the check.
During programming the compliance with the suggested dynamic test may be affirmed or ignored:

DYNAMIC SETTING YES

The distance is determined by the system on the basis of
TEST OVER 120 m

RECOMMENDED
A F F I R M AT I V E ? NO

If “YES” is selected during programming, the dynamic output check is started at the first switch from the
stand-by position to the operation position in the operation mode.
The following display then appears:

F O R T H E DYNAMIC SET- cover the distance required for the check.
TING TEST IS FIXED • Adjustment of the spreader at the prescribed
working height.
The initial weight is now established accurately.

®
6.5 Dynamic output check (CENTERMATIC ) 35

The final weight is now established with accuracy.

After a maximum of 15 seconds the CENTRONIC
enters the stand-by position of the operation mode.
This finishes the dynamic output check.
36 6.6 General instructions

6.6 General instructions

• The recordings of the counters may be slightly misrepresented when minor values are read.
Example: area covered according to counter = 0,9 ha - output rate 200 kg. If the output rate required is 200
kg/ha, it would seem that too much fertilizer was applied. However, 0,999 ha may have been actually
covered, since the counter progresses by 0,1 ha.
If minor values are read on the counters, it is advisable to read at the moment the smallest value shifts to a
higher measuring unit. So: read the weight put out immediately at the moment the counter shifts to, say, 1,0
ha.

• A spinner disc speed of 430-470 rpm is obligatory for an output check in the AUTO (C) position. During
operations, the spinner disc speed should be maintained which is listed in the CENTERLINER spreaders’s
output charts for the relevant kind of fertilizer.
• Such parameters as are selected by the CENTRONIC control system in the AUTO (C) position during the
first output check (shutter position/duration) are based upon the data stored in the CENTRONIC control
system for basic kinds of fertilizer (setting factor 100).
The CENTRONIC control system calculates the setting factor by comparing the quantity measured with the
anticipated output if a fertilizer with setting factor 100 would have been used.
A second output check is carried out with the parameters based on the setting factor of the first test and
therefore gives increased output accuracy, especially if the setting factor is far removed from 100.

• If the CENTERMATIC weighing device is used, check the unladen weight of the spreader prior to fertilizer
application. If the weight is not exactly zero, you need to tare the machine in the programming mode. Only
then will you obtain the correct data on the fertilizer balance and the area it can cover.

! • When disconnecting plugs, you need to apply the dust caps to both plug and connection. This
eliminates malfunctioning of connections, if any, caused by dust and/or fertilizer.

! • Clean the machine thoroughly after each operation. Never aim a water jet at electronic boxes and plug
connections.

! • In case job activities are required for the CENTERMATIC weighing device (and connected machine),
the wires of the load cells must be disconnected.

B ASSEMBLY OF CENTRONIC COMPONENTS ON TRACTOR
B.1 Mounting the forward speed sensor and code disc
- Dismount one of the tractor’s rear wheels.
- Before mounting the code disc on the rim, check if it fits on the axle stub/flange of the rear axle assembly.

- Drill 3-6 holes (ø 9 mm) in

the rim in such a way that
4 mm
the code disc assumes a
centred position on the rim.

- Mount the disc (fig. B-1).

Use the long or short spacer
bushes (6 of each supplied) 2 mm
according to the shape of the
rim.

B-1 B-2
- Re-assemble the wheel to
the tractor. Leave the tractor
in its jacked-up position with a view to a check of the forward speed sensor, at a later stage of the assembly.

- Check if the swing of the code disc remains within 4 mm (radial direction) and 2 mm (axial direction) - see
fig. B-2.

- Mount the sensor bracket on

the tractor’s rear axle
assem- bly (fig. B-3).

5 mm
- Fit the sensor to the bracket.
The sensor’s position in
front of the code disc should
be roughly central in respect
of the slotted holes.
Adjust the distance between
the sensor and the code disc
at 5 mm (fig. B-4). B-3 B-4

- Guide the wire from the sensor to the tractor cab. Take care of moving and rotating parts and of parts which
may develop high temperatures. Tighten the wire by means of binder strips.
Supplement B 45

B.2 Socket
- Place the terminal block (fig. A-5) in the tractor cab.
A
Connection A is for the power supply. Connect the red wire to C
B
the plus terminal and the black wire to the minus terminal.
- Connect the terminal block behind the ignition lock of the
tractor. Connect the red wire (plus) to connection 15 or 54.
- Connect the black wire (minus) to the minus pole of the
battery.
Fit the fuse that was delivered with the control system in the
red wire (plus) between the ignition lock and the terminal
block to safeguard the electrical system against overload.
