Blessed morning students! Good morning too, Ma’am Joy.

Before we start our discussion, Elizabeth can you lead the Okay Ma’am. Let’s bow our head and pray.
prayer?

Arrange your chair properly and pick up any trash that’s

around you.

Who is not here with us? Everyone’s present Ma’am.

Very good, class! Before we proceed, I have question for

you. What do you think is the main source of energy in the The sun, Ma’am.
Earth?

Very good. The sun is our main source of energy. As we go

on, you will know the importance of that to our lesson for

Learning Task
We will be having a game Pinoy Henyo. Everyone must
listen carefully and participate because you will need this
for the activities later. Okay Ma’am. We will listen and cooperate.

II. Activity:
I will group you into two and each group is provided with
different set of words. Each pair has 3 minutes to guess the
word. If the first group did not guess the correct word, the
point will be given to the second group. And vice versa. Is
the mechanics clear? Yes, Ma’am.

These are the set of words to be guess:

Fish Shark Grasshopper Fox

Mice Snake Lion Grass

Plant Hawk Rabbit Chicken

Upon finishing the game, categories the set of words

according to plants, animals (who eat plants) and animals
(who eat other animals). Okay, Ma’am.

III. Analysis:
What can you say about the game, Beth? It was amazing and exciting because of the time allotted to
us.

What can you say about the animals? They ate plants to live.

What do you think is the purpose of the plants, Ben? The plant serves as the food to the animals; animal serves
as a food to the human.
Wow! Nice answer, Ben.

We will elaborate this more upon the discussion.

IV. Abstraction:

All plants and animals need food which provides the

energy they need to live. A food chain describes how
energy and nutrients move through plants and
animals in the ecosystem.
Plants are called producers because they make or
produce their own food.
All animals are consumers. They cannot make their
own food so they eat other organisms like plants.
Primary consumer are animals that only eat plants.
They are herbivores such as rabbits, caterpillars,
cows, sheep, and deer.

Secondary Consumer are animals that eat primary

consumers or herbivores.
Tertiary Consumer are animals that eat secondary
consumers. Examples of these are carnivores that
feed on other carnivores like lion and tiger.
The Sun is very important for all living things because
without the sun the plants would not grow and
without plants there would be no animals. It is
important for us to understand how the food chain
works so that we know what are the important living
organisms that make up the food chain and how the
ecology is balanced.

I have here a short clip that will further explain the

food chain.

Does the clip help you know more about the food Yes Ma’am Joy.
chain?

So are you now ready to have a group activity? Always ready Ma’am.

I will group you into four (4) groups. Each group will
create their own food chain base on their habitat.

Group 1: Dessert food chain

Group 2: Aquatic food chain
Group 3: Land food chain
Group 4: Aerial food chain

V. Application:
Direction: Explain the following in essay form.
What if the primary consumers are gone in the food
chain? How can it affect the balance of the ecosystem?

VI. Assessment:
Direction:
Create your own food chain with the following:
1 producer
2 consumer
3 primary consumer
3 secondary consumer
1 tertiary consumer
