Alkalimetric analysis = a volumetric analysis where acids are estimated quantitatively by methods analogous to those

employed for the quantitative estimation of basis by directly titrating an exact quantity of the acid, acid salt or other
acidic substances with STANDARD ALKALI SOLUTIONS or by adding EXCESS of the latter and determining the amount
in excess by residual titration with STANDARD ACID SOLUTION.

 Direct Titration = 1 standard base solution

 Residual Titration = standard base solution in excess will be neutralized by standard acid solution
 For most inorganic acids, MR or P indicators can be used and the ALKALI should be standardized with
particular indicator used
 For organic acids, P indicator is frequently used

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF GLYCERIN IN THE ASSAY OF BORIC ACID?

HOW WOULD THE FF. ERRORS AFFECT THE % PURITY OBTAINED HOW WOULD THE FF. ERRORS AFFECT THE % PURITY OBTAINED FROM
FROM TITRATION IF THE STUDENT READ THE NORMALITY OF TITRATION IF THE STUDENT WAS PAST THE END POINT OF THE TITRATION
NaOH AS 0.9884N INSTEAD OF 0.9645N? WHEN HE TOOK THE FINAL BURET READING?
