How we see our roles as teachers and how we see our learners Inquiry entry points: ‘Personal inquiry initiated/suggested by teachers * Whole group inquiries mapped ahead and usually initiated by the teacher (main focus for today) + Personal inquiries initiated by the learners interests needs + Whole group inquiries arising from unexpected or spontaneous events/needs Notes: * Important not to plan too in depth so there is room for more genuine inquiry + Problem based inquiry. Project based inquiry. + How can we invite the students to be involved in the planning? + Isthis worth inquiring into? Always ask this. + Bring student representatives into planning meetings. What does a journey of inquiry entail and what is the planning? ‘L. Having a reason to inquire. ‘Take stock of the known we have theories about how we think it might work Gather new info (in different ways) Filter, evaluate, critique and re-think Express, share and ask new questions Reflect and redirect our efforts ‘Adt/share/produce wowsun Authenticity: + Real people, real resources, questions relevant to student's lives. + Eg. How sustainable is our school? Can we create our own restaurant? Why is the Varra river so important and how can \we care for it? How could we help new families get to know our local neighbourhood? ‘History - World wars- what is the role of conflict in our lives? Explorers, how does exploration change people and places? + How and why do people tell their stories? Learning intentions: © What do we want students to understand, do and be? + Don't become too lost in the activities and content. Need to think bigger picture. + Write understanding goals. Sit underneath the big question, Skills and dispositions: + Learning assets (skills and dispositions) thinker, self-manager, collaborator, communicator, researcher and contributor. + Put three in the spotlight for an inquiry after the learning intentions. Things you want the students to do by the end of the inquiry Tuning + Dowe need provocations to stimulate interest? Curiosity? A desire to investigate? ‘+ How might we tune into student's current thinking? Gather data about their prior knowledge in relation to our understanding goals. How might we capture this thinking? + Assessing growth. here's what, so what2, now what?" thinking for starting inquiry. Photo and word- what is the connection? Initial response to the question. First thinking. Do this a few times to show progression of understanding over time, Layered circles. How are students going to track what they are thinking? Journaling and ongoing reflection.
