Job Summary:
The Metallurgy Department (CIL Section) seeks to employ an experienced and suitable individual for the position of
Shift Supervisor - Metallurgy. The successful applicant will assist in ensuring that management systems, processes
and policies are in place to keep the department running to ensure maximum gold recovery through good co-
ordination of the team.
Key responsibilities:
Ensure required reagent addition rates are used as determined by the technical metallurgical team
Ensure supernatant water from the Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) is clarified according to standard
operating procedures
Ensure that water clarified meets discharge limits as set out in the Environmental Protection Agency's
guidelines for effluent discharge
Ensure water supply to the CIL plant for the successful running of the milling circuit and all ancillary units.
Ensure optimum chemical usage in the operations contributing positively to cost reduction in the section.
Ensure that any residual gold in the supernatant water is adsorbed unto activated carbons for further gold
desorption and recovery processes
Ensure chemical inventory at the external reagents are kept according to GFGL standards.
Supervise work at the CIL external reagents and ensuring the timely preparation of reagents for plant use.
Ensure coordination with the other shifts and promote effective team work aimed at delivery per the
mandate of the designation.
Ensure area of operation is controlled in accordance with operating procedures
Ensure compliance with the ICMI code in the treatment section of the plant, as well as maintaining the highest
standards in terms of safety and environmental management systems
Key Requirements:
A relevant tertiary qualification in Metallurgy/Mineral Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized
institution.
At least three (3) years relevant working experience in a Supervisory capacity
Good working knowledge of the ICMI code and implementation
Sound understanding of Metallurgical Research and Interpretation of data
Knowledge of relevant legislation, mine standards and codes of practice
Well-developed oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with people of diverse cultures
and levels
