1.

The former President Corazon Aquino expressed her sentiments towards the president turned
traitor and dictator known as Ferdinand Marcos regarding how her husband together with
thousands of Filipinos suffered under the authoritarian rule of Marcos as well as the corrupt and
unjust system that was being served in the country. In which enabled Corazon Aquino to stand
up for the Filipinos, hence she centralized her speech on the democracy and freedom of the
Filipino.
2. Seeing Corazon Aquino made me shiver, as she eloquently delivers her speech, it felt like it
was the first time witnessing a government official that is full of commitment and compassion
for the people. She mentioned how the country lost its faith to the future but was resurrected
through her eagerness to provide liberty for the people. It is relevant today as killings became
inevitable, especially now that the government is enraged with those people who are opposing to
the government that is similar during the time of Marcos, wherein anyone who had spoken up for
democracy was detained.
3. I agree with her when she quoted “democracy must be defended by arms, when it is attached
by arms, and by truth when it is attacked by lies”. Inclined with this, she stated that “force may
be necessary before mercy” because knowing that she had to turn the tables upside down for
Philippines to rise again, she had to do something for the good of all, but without using any arms.
She believed that it was possible for the Philippines to become great and open again, hence she
used her intelligence to make it happen. The friendship of America and Philippines seems to be
the last resort of Corazon Aquino, given that the Philippines is in debt, and she had to establish a
partnership with a developed country to realign the economic state of the Philippines. Yet, I
disagree that America was balancing their strategic interest, because after all they need
something to mechanize the Philippines.
4. The House of the Representative were moved her speech, especially in the part that she was
able to fight for her policy about the reconciliation to the Philippines’ Communist Insurgent, as
she requested for more financial aid for the restoration of the Philippines disrupted economy. She
left a remarkable line to the senate, and that is “You have spent so many lives and much treasure to bring
freedom to many lands that were reluctant to receive it," said Aquino. "And here you have a people who won it by
themselves and need only the help to preserve it."
