Handout 2 – Significance of studying Culture, Society, and Politics

 By studying Culture (Anthropology), Society (Sociology) and Politics (Political


Science) people will be able to understand and explain the social issues in the
human society today.

ANTHROPOLOGY

 The study that deals with the differences in culture. This includes the study of
language, biology and society in relation to culture.
 It has two broad fields: Physical Anthropology and Cultural Anthropology.

FIELD SUBFIELD
Physical Human Paleontology – how humans emerged and evolved
Anthropology / through time.
Biological Human Variation – how human beings differ biologically.
Anthropology
Cultural Archeology – study of past culture through tangible or material
Anthropology remains.
Linguistics – anthropological study of language.
Ethnology – study of recent or present cultures.

SOCIOLOGY

 It is the study of relationships among people.


 It deals with analyzing social problems and explain trends and various
phenomena present in society.

POLITICAL SCIENCE

 Deals with the systems of government and the analysis of political activity and
political behavior.
 It deals extensively with the theory and practice of politics which is commonly
thought of as the determining of the distribution of power and resources.

International Relation Studies the politics among nations.
Political Theory Studies classical and modern politics.
Public Administration Studies bureaucracies on how it is functional.

or state.
Public Policy Studies the interface of politics and economic.
