Detailed lesson plan

MAPEh 6(SECOND QUARTER)

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the 55 minute lesson, 75% of students from Grade
VI- Saint Cecilia will be able to:
a. Applies the concept of timbre through recognizing musical instruments aurally and
visually.
b. Identifies visually and orally the instrument section of the western orchestra.
c. differentiates the characteristics of each instruments in each section of the orchestra.

A. TOPIC : Classification of Instruments in an Orchestra
B. REFERENCE : MAPEH in ACTION Grade VI pp. 51-53
C. MATERIALS : Laptop, Projector, Powerpoint Presentation, videos and
pictures of the instruments in orchestra.

D. DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS

There are 4 classification of instruments in


the orchestra: the string, woodwind, brass
and percussion.

Strings- instruments that are bowed or


plucked. It is call the “backbone” of the
orchestra.

Violin- the leader of the orchestra

Viola- a little large that violin

Cello- larger than viola

Double Bass- larger instrument in the strings
family and has a lowest pitch. (Showing the picture of the cello to the
students)
Next is the Woodwind instruments:

Woodwind- can produce sound and music the students)
when they blow in the mouthpiece

These are:

Piccolo- smallest instrument in woodwind


family.

Flute- high range and producing series of


notes. (Showing the picture of the Piccolo to the
students)
Oboe-most dramatic among woodwind
instruments. (Showing the picture of the flue to the
students)
Clarinet-cylindrical instrument with a cup-
shaped mouthpiece. (Showing the picture of the Oboe to the
students)
Last member of the woodwind family is
(Showing the picture of the Clarinet to the
Bassoon- It is called the “clown of the students)

Another group of instruments are: (Showing the picture of the Bassoon to the
students)
Brass Instruments- they are made of brass
metal

Trumpet-has a brilliant and brassy sound

Trombone- sliding instrument in the brass


section. (Showing the picture of the trumpet to the
students)
French Horn- 12 ft. long and more mellow
sound. (Showing the picture of the Trombone to the
students)
Tuba- the largest in the brass section and has
a lowest pitch.

Percussion Instruments- a striking (Showing the picture of the Tuba to the

Timpani- a kettle like drum.


Snare drum- that produces a sharp staccato

of the orchestra will not play as good as they
