Identifying Real or Make-believe,
1 Fact or Non-fact Images
Are you fond of watching fantasy, even horror movie or television show? Do the
characters, and events amazed or fascinated you? Were you able to distinguish
the created characters or events as real or not?

What’s New

Then, identify them as believable or unbelievable.
6
What did you notice on the first column? Second column?
7
What is It
Based on the pictures which you had identified, which among them are believable?
Unbelievable? Why do you say so? What makes you decide that they are believable
or unbelievable?
In the activity that you have done, images on the first column such as teacher,
bird, horse, fish, and an airplane are said to be believable. They are images that
actually exist in life. A teacher is a person who taught children. While bird, fish,
and horse are animals we typically see in our daily lives. More so, airplane is an
aircraft with engine, designed with wings, and able to fly. All of these are real, for
they truly proven by our senses. They can be seen, hear, smell, or even taste. And
if the thing or an event is real, they are said to be fact because it was proven by
evidence.
On the other hand, images on the second column, such as the character of Darna,
unicorn, mermaid, manananggal and the fairies are said to be unbelievable. These
characters are mythical or fantasy. They have their powers or able to do things
that don’t happen in real life. They were results of creative imagination, thus, they
are so-called make-believe. And a make-believe, is also a non-fact for there is no
proven evidence or has no complete information.
Real things are connected with fact things. Because to make it a real one, it should
be existing, it happened, or proven, thus fact means. Same thing, make- believe
tend to be non- fact for it is not proven or did not exist.
Here are the tips that may help you, on how you can identify a real, fact, make-
believe, or non-fact.
