THE ACCIDENT

 I saw (see) a car accident yesterday. I was standing (I am standing) on the corner,
waiting for the green light. The other light changed from green to yellow. Then I saw a
sports car. The man driving the sports car was driving very fast. He wanted to get
through the yellow light, but when he got closer, it turned red.

Ele quis atravessar a luz amarela.

Eu trabalho hoje = I work today.

Eu quero trabalhar hoje = I want to work today.

Eu gosto de trabalhar de manhã = I like to work in the morning.

Eu gostava de trabalhar a noite = I liked to work in the evening.

The tow truck moved forward.

On the other street, a tow truck started to move forward. The driver of the sports car
tried to stop, but it was too late. He smashed into the side of the tow truck.

 3.

The man in the sports car got out of his car very slowly. He had a cut on his head, and
he was stumbling around. The man in the tow truck was not hurt. He called an
ambulance with his cell phone.

 4.

By then, a crowd was gathering. Some people were watching from a distance, and
others were helping the injured man. Then the ambulance arrived. The paramedics put
the injured man on a stretcher and drove him to the hospital.

THE SPEECH

1. 1.

I gave a speech in front of my class yesterday. I was very nervous, and I was
sweating a lot.

2. 2.
 Everyone was bored. Even my teacher was bored! She was yawning (TO
YAWN = bocejar) and watching the soccer game out the window. Some people
were sleeping on their desks. One guy was even snoring. (TO SNORE = roncar)
Other people were doing their homework.

3. 3.

I was holding my notes in front of me, and my hands were shaking. I was talking
really fast. Afterwards, everyone said it was very good. My teacher gave me a
good mark, but she told me to speak more slowly next time.

I had a bad day at work today. I was late because I missed the bus. I missed an
important meeting, and my boss was mad. I also forgot to bring an important
report because I brought the wrong briefcase.

2. 2.

On my way to my boss’s office, I got a coffee. Then I spilled the coffee on my

shirt by mistake. In his office, I tripped on a phone cord and fell. He was very
angry about the report.

3. 3.

Later, I told my coworkers that the boss was in a bad mood. I did an impression
of the boss and made fun of him. When I turned around, the boss was behind
me. He heard everything. He called me into his office, and he fired me.

On my way home, I went to my favorite deli for a salami sandwich. But they
had no more salami! It was the worst day of my life.

I went to the park with my mom and our dog today. We went down the slide.
My mom pushed me on the swing.

We also found a small pond. The dog and I splashed around in the pond. Then
we played tag.

 My mom brought a picnic lunch. We sat on the grass and ate sandwiches. The
dog chased squirrels. Afterward, my mom bought me an ice-cream cone!

Then I saw my friends Alex and Jenny. We all played frisbee together. Then I
felt tired, so we went home.

In the evening, they went to a Japanese restaurant. Fred ordered sushi, and Sarah
ordered teriyaki. Afterward, they took another walk downtown. Fred gave Sarah
his jacket because she was cold.

 They saw a quiet cafe and went inside. They both ordered coffee and shared a
piece of chocolate cake. Then Fred drove Sarah home.

They both enjoyed the evening.
