Gerund and Infinitive

ing – gerund
to - infinitive

Some verbs are followed by a verb with “ing”. we call them gerund.

Some verbs are followed by a verb with “to ”. we call them infinitive

Some verbs are followed by a verb with “ing” or “to”.

Infinitive

Mum finally agreed to buy me that scooter.

She decided to stay at home and not to go out.

I hope to pass all my exams.

You need to be more patient in this situation.

Dad wants to change his car because it’s very old.

Either

I hate watching / to watch animated movies.

She likes cooking/ to cook.

David loves spending / to spend time at home.

I prefer staying / to stay at home in this cold weather.
