I. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT:

In this lesson, you will learn how to make drafts pattern for household linens
observe safety precautions, sews creative and marketable household linens as
means to augment family income and assesses the products as to quality using
rubrics
Drafting pattern is the process of creating a pattern or an outline by taking
measurements from a person, form, or model, in order to create a foundation, which
is pattern used as the basis for the design. This pattern or outline is called a Draft,
which then transferred on to the cloth to be cut.
Safety measures have to be taken seriously especially when sharp pointed
objects are used. Safety must be observed in sewing area. Put into your mind that
sewing isn't dangerous if you take the proper precautions, common sense, always
be alert and fully wake when you use the sewing tools and processes.
Sewing creative and marketable household linens can augment family
income. One of the marketable household linen products is a pillowcase. You have
learned the different kinds of stitches that you may apply in sewing pillowcase.
You are expected to sew an envelope pillowcase as a project in "Sewing a
Household Linen" using the different steps or procedures given. You will make a
draft for a pillowcase. You will need the following tools:
1. Measuring Tools - tape measures, tailor's square and ruler

2. Marking Tools- penils, tailor's chalk and tracing wheel


3. Cutting Tools -dressmaker's shears
4. Pinning Tools pins.

Sews creative and marketable household linens as means to augment
family income.
Assesses the finished products as to the quality using rubrics.

1. LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

Activity 1: Make Me- Draft for Envelope Pillowcase.

Steps in making draft for Envelope Pillowcase

1. Prepare the needed tools and materials.


2. Take the measurement of the pillow. Add 1 width for easy insertion.
3. Mark the measurement in the pattern paper or wrong side of the fabric by
putting dots and x.
4. Add 1 allowance for the width in both sides for the seam of the front and back
piece.
5. For the length, add 2 " for the front piece and 5 for the back piece to
allow for a nice 4" flap.
6. Use a tailored chalk and a ruler in forming the shapes and designs.
7. Cut the drafted pattern paper with a scissor.

Activity 2: ldentify the sentences. Write if it is correct and x if is wrong in the space
provided.

_1. Keep needles and pins in pin cushion, do not leave them at the workplace.
2. Use scissors for cutting the thread do not bite or cut it with your hands.
_3. Collect and discard al the broken and rusty needles and pins, wrapped in a
paper.
4. Light should fall on the working surface from the left side or from the front.
_5. Use your finger in pushing the needle in the cloth.
6. Never put the needle or pin your mouth, and do not attach them in the cloth
or fabric.
Use the thimble in the middle finger to push the needle in sewing.
8. Keep the sewing room neat and clean before and after working.
9. Disregard plugs and wires inside the sewing area.
10. When cutting observe the direction, do not cut in motion hold the material.

fabric and don't forget to follow the safety precautions while preparing and sewing
