Introduction

Barangay 171 is located in the City of Caloocan (North) and it has the biggest land area. It

comprises the areas of Tierra Nova Royale Subdivision, Saranay Homes, Nova Hills

Subdivision, etc. According to the 2015 Census, its total population was 98,166 and it

represents 6.20% of the total population of Caloocan City.

The problem in waste management is still very evident in Barangay 171 even though

Caloocan City has an ordinance that penalizes the improper disposal of waste. This problem is

due to the lack of continuous garbage collection, lack of trash bins in the community, lack of

disposal facilities, and the lack of systematic waste management in Barangay 171. The

overwhelming amount of waste lying uncollected and improperly disposed in the streets and

vacant lots is threatening the health of the environment and the people. If this kind of system

continues, it will put the public in great danger.

As a solution to this problem, there will be a construction of compost pits on ten (11)

areas in Barangay 171. These are the following areas: Progressive Ville, Northcrest

Subdivision, Evergreen Executive Village, Casa Asuncion, Metropolis North Subdivision,

Greenville Subdivision, North Kalookan Homes, Solar Town Homes, Villa Crystal Home Owners

Association, Kingstown 1 Subdivision, and Saranay Homes. In every area, three to five

subdivisions will share in one compost pit and there is a schedule on when they will deposit their

waste. Through the help of compost pit, the waste will be segregated, collected, and disposed

properly.

As students, we can stop the poor waste management by educating ourselves on how to

store and dispose our waste properly. It is our obligation and responsibility to keep our

environment clean because having a healthy environment will bring a lot of benefits to us. We

need to stop neglecting our waste problem and we need to start formulating solutions on how

we can have an effective waste management. We need to make an effort to solve the growing
problem of waste management in our community because an irresponsible waste disposal by

one person will affect the whole community.

Action Plan Description

The action plan “Establishment of Compost Pit for the Waste Management in Barangay

171” would give an education to people on how to properly manage the waste by the means of

segregation and of the compost pit. The action plan will help the people in the community to

have a green and clean environment and at the same time, it is also a help to the planet.

Visualization of the Action Plan

The action plan will be done by the cooperation with the LGU in the said plan. The LGU
will provide a place for the establishment of the compost pit. In regards for the building of the
compost pit, the LGU will also help for its establishment for the efficient work of it. Conducting
the seminar and doing the workshop in different areas of the Barangay would help the people in
the community to open and reflect their mind when it becomes in proper waste management, in
which they would apply it in the implementation of the plan in regard of the compost pit and up
to the continuous practice of it. The monitoring would be done continuously as well as the
implementation. The monitoring will be the basis of the effectiveness of the seminar and
workshop, and the basis in if the people in the community would follow the procedure needed to
be done for the proper waste management. Monitoring for the compost pit and proper waste
management can be done by the barangay officials in Barangay 171.
