May-July Report

At the two-day tournament in May on Cypress Springs and Bob Sandlin, JT Andersen
came in 4th place by flipping grass and reeds with a watermelon Rage Craw on Cypress and a
watermelon-red tube on Sandlin. Rusty Denison took 3rd place, catching fish on both lakes with a
Yellow Magic and a Brush Hog. Nick Pantel claimed 3rd place, filling his limit on Cypress with
an Xcite square-bill crankbait and a shakey-head worm he fished on docks and spawning beds.
On Sandlin, Pantell caught two keepers on a chatterbait, including a beautiful, big mama that
finally broke the elusive Eight-Pound pot! And Allen House won the two-day tourney by
working tubes on Cypress and frogs, tubes, and a spinnerbait on windy banks on Sandlin.

At the June tournament on Coffee Mills, Steven Rizzo caught two 5+ pounders on a
black-and-yellow (Cali color) Snag Proof Ish Poppin’ Phattie frog and a 1-pounder on a green
pumpkin Yum Christie Craw. All three bass were caught off secondary points leading into the
mouths of bays. Rizzo’s total weight was 11.59 pounds, which would have tied for 2nd place, but
unfortunately one of the two big bass died, and the half-pound penalty brought Rizzo’s weight
down to 11.09 pounds and 4th place. Rizzo also won Big Bass with a 5.35-pounder (The one that
died was a few ounces heavier but not after being docked the half-pound). JT Andersen had four
keepers by 7:00 a.m., all caught on a black and chartreuse Stanley Ribbit frog. Then, in the last
two hours of the tournament, Andersen culled three times by flipping reeds and trees with a tube
and catching one key fish on a fluke he found sticking out of the mouth of one of the fish he
caught. Andersen’s final weight of 11.29 pounds was good enough for 3rd place. Randall Morris
caught two keepers early on a chugger and then nothing until he and his partner Ricky Bishop
moved to the dam in the last couple hours of the tourney. At the dam, Bishop caught two on a
Carolina-rigged swimmin’ fluke, then, in fifteen minutes, he and Morris finished their limits with
a horse-head underspin, the same bait Casey Ashley used to win the 2015 Bass Masters Classic.
After leaving the dam, the pair saw Rusty Denison, and, once again demonstrating his
selflessness and good sportsmanship, Morris invited Denison to follow them back to the magic
spot on the dam where Denison proceeded to fill his limit and Morris and Bishop both culled up.
When all was said and done, Morris took 2nd place with 11.59 pounds, and Bishop won the
tourney with 11.74.

The July tournament on Ray Hubbard saw the lowest weights of the season with only a
handful of anglers weighing in fish. Garrett House took 4th place with one bass just under two
pounds. Mark Roundy came in 3rd place with a 2.09 pounder he caught near the launch in the last
twenty minutes of the tourney. “Coach” Mark Oglesbee claimed 2nd place and Big Bass with a
2.61-pounder he caught on a crankbait. And Allen House flipped up two keepers—no one else
weighed in more than one—for 3.47 pounds to win the tournament and become the Angler of the
Year points leader.

The next Celina Bass Club tournament will be held August 1st on beautiful Lake o’ the
Pines. The club will launch from the Johnson Creek ramp. Anglers can be on the water starting at
4:30 a.m., first cast is at 5:30 a.m., and anglers must be back at the ramp by 1:30 p.m.
The September tournament will be on Lake Lewisville, and at the Monday night (July
th
27 ) meeting, by a 15-4 vote, it was determined that the 2015 Celina Bass Club Classic will be
held on Cedar Creek Reservoir. See you all this weekend at Lake o’ the Pines. God bless!
