COURSE CONTENT:
The program outline addresses both the knowledge needed in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
and allied medical specialties in its scope. A minimum of three years of formal training
through a graded system of education as specified will equip the trainee with skill and
knowledge at its completion to be able to practice basic Oral and Maxillofacial surgery
competently and have the ability to intelligently pursue further apprenticeship towards
advanced Maxillofacial surgery.

COURSE CURRICULUM
The course shall comprise of a minimum of three years which the student will be deemed to
have acquired:
(b) Competence at running independently orthodontic services and cleft palate Orthodontics.
(c) Working knowledge of some of the important instruments, equipment in the scientific
investigation of malocclusion of teeth, jaws and craniofacial anomalies.
(d) Familiarity with the modern teaching methods and assessment strategies for
undergraduate students.
The student shall be rotated for training in different sections i.e. Radiodiagnosis
(roentgenocephalometric) and Otolaryngology (oral breathing, nasal obstructions & speech).
The candidate will get training in various aspects of Orthodontics during the three year
course.
Six months teaching of basic subjects including completion of pre–clinical exercises. Two
and half years with coverage of all the relevant topics in Orthodontics, clinical training
involving treatment of patients.

3. Each student will be assigned a journal of Orthodontics or of allied sciences for this purpose
of Orthodontics or of allied sciences for this purpose to review the more important articles
that have appeared in current journals irrespective of topic to give practice to the student in
comprehension and presentation of the data and his own views before a group.
4. Clinical case conference– the student will present all data including cephlometric analysis
for discussion in the conference of faculty and students.
5. The students will work on patients in the clinics, under the supervision of the teachers.
6. Lecturers in the basic sciences – attending at this course given by the basic science
disciplines will be compulsory. This will be given once every year and attendance at these
courses will be essential.
7. Concurrent clinical training – each student will be required to undergo concurrent clinical
training for this purpose in Paediatric Surgery/ Plastic Surgery and Radiodiagnosis.

Total score in various internal assessments for both theory and practical
components will be used to give weightage equal to 20% of total marks of final
examination in both theory as well as practical.
Final result will be prepared after adding scores of internal assessment and
final examination in both components by Examination Cell.
