First Session Lecture: 75 minutes
Objectives:
The objectives of this lecture are:
To define the core sociological concepts, theories and macro and micro level perspectives
To understand the four major sociological perspectives (Functionalist, Conflict, Symbolic
Interaction, and Feminist), their theoretical components and their historical evolution.
To describe sociology as a multi-perspectives social science, which is divided into positivist,
interpretive and critical paradigms
Understand the similarities and differences between structural functionalism, critical
sociology, and symbolic interactionism

Requirements:
Write down the summary of learned concepts from chapter No.1(material include all
three lectures uptill now)
Expectations from the Students
At the first hand, students are supposed to read, revise and understand learned concepts in
very detail with help of self studies or by doing group discussion with their classmates of
the given chapter.
Once they completely understand and memorize the learned concepts of chapter No.1,
now they are supposed to write each concept from that chapter in their own words.
At this stage they won’t allow themselves to get help from any book, slides or either from
their own notes.
Copy paste material from any source will be rejected straightforward.
Though there is not specific requirement for the number of pages for this assignment but
the only requirement is that the given topic should be explained clearly, with attention to
detail. The more comprehensively the topic will be elaborated; the chances will be greater
to score higher marks.
Submission:
How to Submit: Students submitting this assignment should adhere to the following
guidelines:
1. Students are supposed to develop front page with the detailed information
about their name, registration number, submission day and date along with the
name of their tutor.
2. On the second page they are required to make a tree diagram in which they are
going to cover the detailed information about the headings and subheadings of
the given topics that will being covered in the following assignment.
3. Students are encouraged to write down this assignment in their own
handwriting by using proper paper sheets.
4. Each copy of the assignment must be bound using a single staple at the top left
hand corner. Binding using a plastic folder is not required.
When to Submit: Students are supposed to submit this assignment in their upcoming
class.
