WINNERS OR RUNNERS
Identify the property and name of the game in which it is used.
Explain about each of them in five sentences.

1.

 Badminton is a sport played using rackets to hit a shuttlecock across


a net.
 The most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per
side) and "doubles" (with two players per side).
 It is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach.
 The formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court.
 Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racket and
landing it within the opposing side's half of the court.

 Table tennis is also known as ping-pong and whiff-whaff.


 It is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, called
the ping-pong ball, back and forth across a table using small rackets.

 The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net.
 The rules are players must allow a ball played towards them to
bounce once on their side of the table and must return it so that it
bounces on the opposite side at least once.
 A point is scored when a player fails to return the ball within the
rules.

 Hockey is the national sport of India.


 It is played with a curved stick and a small ball.
 It is played with 11 players on each side among whom 10 are on the
field and one is the goal keeper.
 The aim is to move the ball forward with the curve end of the stick
and score a goal.
 The strikers are exceptionally skilled at hitting the targets so that
their shots successfully enter the goal post.
 The goalkeeper has the responsibility of obstructing the goals the
opposite team seeks to score.

 Cricket is a game played between two teams with bat and ball having
11 players on each team.

 The person who hits the ball is called “Batsman”, another person who
bowls is called “Bowler”.

 The aim of the two teams is to restrict the opponent in less runs while
bowling and make maximum runs while batting.

 Before start of the game a coin is tossed, winner of the toss decides
either to bowl or bat first.

 To give a batsman out, there are two judges who stand on the field,
they are called as “Umpires”.

 Football is the most popular game in the world.


 The word Football gets its name from the combination of two words,
‘Foot’ and ‘ball, where the players run and kick the ball with their feet.
 It comprises a total of eleven players, with ten key players and a
goalkeeper.
 Each player competes against his opponent and tries to kick the ball
into the opponent’s post to attain a goal.
 The team that scores more than two wins is considered as the winning
team.
