MUSLIM CULTURE TO GET FREEDOM
AND CIVILIZATION
After the war of independence, the Muslims were greatly pressed by the
Hindus as well as the British, social, political and economical conditions of the
Muslims were totally changed. With the help of different movements and
organizations efforts were either to convert the Muslims into Hindus or to
throw them out of India.

REASONS:
Following were the Aims and Objectives that led to the creation of Pakistan.

ESTABLISHMENT OF TRUE ISLAMIC STATE:

The prime objective of the demand of the Pakistan was the establishment of
a society having its own identity and government, practicing its own social
principles and religion and where Allah Almighty’s supremacy could be
enforced and where a government based on Islamic principles could be
instituted.
Quaid-e-Azam said,” We did not demand Pakistan just to acquire a piece of
land, but a homeland where we could introduce Islamic principles”.

PROTECTION FROM COMMUNIAL RIOTS:

The communal Riots on every other day made it clear that the Hindus could
take over the politics after the departure of The British. The Hindu
organizations had again and again asserted that Hindu Raj would be imposed
on India after the independence. So to get rid of these atrocities the Muslims
demanded their separate state.
SOCIAL AND POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT OF MUSLIMS:
After the war of Independence 1857, the social environment was totally
changed. The Muslims were scared of the caste system of Hindus and other
discriminations. They could enjoy neither political nor social liberties therefore,
they preferred to have a separate homeland in which they could live according
to the teachings of Islam.

PROTECTION OF MUSLIM LANGUAGE:

Literal meaning of Urdu is of “Lashkar” i.e. army. It was started during the
victories of Muslims on South India. Later on, it had a chance of growing during
the Muslim rule which lasted for 1000 years. Urdu was a sure part of Islamic
civilization. Its safety was the safety of Islamic civilization as it was obligatory
on Muslims to protect it.
The Hindus did the best to replace Urdu by Hindi. But they did not succeed
during British period. In 1867 the Hindus of Banaras presented a request to
their government regarding the replacement of Urdu with Hindi and its Persian
script with that of Devnagri script.
Sir Syed Ahmed Khan at that demanded that when even the language of a
nation is not safe at the hands of other nations in a region, it would be unwise
to continue living with them. So Sir Syed, who was in fact a great advocate of
Hindu-Muslim unity prior to that incident, started focusing on the cause of
Muslims alone.
Sir Syed said “ I am convinced that both these communities will not join
whole heartedly in anything. At present there is no open hostility between the
two communities, but it will increase immensely in the future”.
TWO NATION THEORY:
The two-nation theory (Urdu: ‫ ) دو قومی نظریہ‬is the basis of the creation of
Pakistan. The two-nation theory in its simplest way means that cultural,
political, religious, economic and social dissimilarities between the two major
communities, Hindus and Muslims of the Subcontinent. These differences of
outlook, in fact, were greatly instrumental in giving rise to two distinct political
ideologies which were responsible for the partition of the sub-continent into
two independent states. Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was the first Muslim
leader who propounded this theory. The two-nation theory was a founding
principle of the Pakistan Movement (i.e. the ideology of Pakistan as a Muslim
nation-state in South Asia), and the partition of India in 1947)

‫سب پر انحصار‬
‫ت مذہب سے مستحکم ہے جمعیّت تری‬

ILL TREATMENT OF BRITISHERS:
Britishers were friends of Hindus. They snatched away the estates and jobs
from Muslims and either gave them to Hindus or kept with themselves. They
badly attacked on Muslim’s religion, culture and civilization. But Hindus were
not a part of these attacks. This ill-treatment of Britishers become a major
cause of the creation of Pakistan.

NARROW MINDEDNESS OF HINDUS:

The Hindu community’s narrow mindedness could be gauged from the fact
that they do not feel ashamed of idol worship during the 20th century even the
women are considered slaves. They do not recognize the right of second
marriage for the widow. They consider themselves such superior to the people
of their own race. There was a concept of caste systems in the Hindus itself.
There was only one way of Muslim’s deliverance from such a narrow-minded
and prejudiced community, and that was a separate state comprising the
provinces of Muslim majority, and as such they demanded a separate
homeland.

PROTECTION OF MUSLIM CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION

The Muslim were always a separate nation because of their distinctive cultural
values and patterns. The Muslims Culture, Civilization and literature were the
living and proud symbols of the Muslims Identity as a separate and distinct
nation. The Hindus always desired to crush the Muslims as a nation and
ultimately merge them into Hindu society. Several attempts were made by the
Hindus to erase the Muslim culture and civilization:
1)Hindu-Urdu controversy 2) Shuddi Sanghtan Movements
One of the great objectivesof the Pakistan movement was the protection of
Muslim culture and save it to Hindu domination.
TO EMERGE AS AN ECONOMICALLY SOUND MUSLIM STATE
The economic condition of Muslims before partition was deplorable. All high
civil and military positions were reserved for Hindus, the Muslims were
considered eligible for peon’s and low-ranking jobs. The major objective of the
creation of Pakistan was the establishment of a balanced economic system
based on the Islamic principles of Islam. And desire a homeland where
everyone had enough opportunities and where every individual was self
sufficient in his economic matter.
The economic system of Islam is based on the balanced principles which
do not permit an individual to keep wealth and economic resources more than
one’s needs and requirements. By the system of Zakat, ushers, Extra wealth is
extracted from the people and distributed among the poorer and more needy
persons of the society to maintain economic balance.

ESTABLISHMENT OF ISLAMIC DEMOCRACY

Islam has given an ideal concept of democracy which is distinctively different
from the western concept. In Islamic democracy every one is equal and no one
is superior on the basis of his social status, colour or creed. One of the main
reasons for freedom movement was that the Muslim of the sub-continent
wanted a country where the ideal system of Islamic democracy could be
installed.

EFFECTS OF KHILAFAT MOVEMENT

The Muslims of India had a great regard for the Khilafat (Caliphate) which was
held by the Ottoman Empire. During World War I, the Ottoman Empire (Turkey)
joined the war in favour of Germany. But Turkey and Germany lost the war and a
pact commonly known as Istanbul Accord was concluded between the Allied
Forces on 3rd November 1918. According to this Pact the territories of Turkey
were to be divided among France, Greece and Britain. The movement came to an
end when thousands of Indians were put behind the bar. The leaders in spite of
their best efforts could not maintain the Hindu-Muslim Unity. One of the main
reasons which caused a death blow to Khilafat Movement was the indirect
announcement of Gandhi to discontinue the Non-Co-operation Movement.
Gandhi used an incident of arson on February 1922, when a violent mob set on
fire a police choki at Chora Churi at district Gorakpur, burning 21 constables to
death as an excuse to call off the non-cooperation movement. It adversely
affected the Khilafat Movement which thought to be integral part of movement.

ALIGARH MOVEMENT
After Hindi-Urdu conflict, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan did many works for the
progress of Muslims which were famous by the name of Aligarh Movement.
Due to this movement a portion of Muslim society not only got educated but
they were also educated in political affairs. These educated class played the
main role in the creation of Pakistan. In short because of the efforts of Sir Syed
Ahmad Khan, Pakistan became a reality.

NEED OF UNITY OF ISLAMIC WORLD

Muslims were dispersed in the 20th century especially after the failure of
KHILAFAT MOVEMENT. The Muslims wanted to become united again because
unity is also the basic teachings of Islam. But the unity of the Muslim world was
not possible without the creation of Pakistan. In short, the Muslims demanded
a separate state only because of their worse conditions and to save their
national integrity.

CONCLUSION

It was Jinnah alone who made the crucial decisions that led Muslim India directly
to Pakistan within a year that transferred the possibility of an independent
Muslim homeland into actuality. The whole world acknowledged that had there
been no Jinnah there would have been no Pakistan. And the nation rightfully
acclaimed him Quaid-i-Azam- The Great Leader.
As a result of the Pakistan Movement led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and
the subcontinent's struggle for independence, Pakistan was created in 1947 as
an independent nation for Muslims from the regions in the east and west of
the Subcontinent where there was a Muslim majority.
