GI ROTATIONS:

Rotation 1
Requirement Set #1:

Learn anatomy (any book of your choice), machines, location of supplies and exam routines
All handouts by Dr. Gasparaitis (See Faculty Share: Body Imaging>GI Fluoro>BI Phasic UGI
12-08-09).
Keats. Normal Variants (old ed. 4 is in the GI area shelves): Figs in Chapters 11-13.

All product information (doses, indications, absolute and relative contraindications) for all drugs
and devices used in fluoro (all barium products in the “barium kitchen” e.g, names, w/w and w/v,
glucagon, metaclopramide, etc.)

Requirement #2:

Gelfand book. See Faculty Share: Body Imaging>GI Gelfand


Pages 1-28 are required. The remainder of the book is recommended

Requirement #3:

Use at least one of several sources to learn plain film interpretations:

Option #1: Textbook of Gastrointestinal Radiology. 3rd Ed. Gore & Levine. Springer 2008. Two
copies of this book are available for sign out with Charlene Sheridan.
Section II: Abdominal Plain Radiographs: Chapters 15, 16, 17 (pages 189-234).

Option #2: Faculty Share Archive: ebooks>Abdominal X-Rays made Easy by James D. Begg.
Entire book. It is 183 pages but mostly images and very fast reading. Even if you use option #1,
its worth skimming the figures.

Rotations 2 & 3 (No specific order)

Requirement #3:
a. Watch a VC being done and interpreted.
b. Atlas of Virtual Colonoscopy. A.Dachman, A. Laghi (eds): Chapters 1, 7 & Part II Atlas
(Two copies in GI Fluoro Area. Also in faculty share: Archive>ebooks>Atlas of Virtual
Colonoscopy)

Requirement #4:

Textbook of Gastrointestinal Radiology, Gore, Levin, 3rd edition available for sign out from
Charlene Sheridan. Dr. Dachman is also willing to loan his copy.
