TOBRIN

Composition
Each 1 ml sterile ophthalmic solution or 1 g ointment contains :
Tobramycin 3 mg

Properties and Mode of Action


TOBRIN is the water - soluble bactericidal antibiotic which inhibits protein synthesis by combining with mRNA.
TOBRIN is active against a wide range of G-ve and G+ve bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus
influenzae and aegypticus, Neisseria sp., Klebsiella pneumoniae, E.coli, Proteus sp., Enterobacter aerogenes, Moraxella
lacunata, Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Staphylococi sp. including S. aureus, Streptococci sp. including Strep. pneumoniae
and beta-haemolytic Streptococci.
TOBRIN has been found safe and effective in children.

Indications
Treatment of superficial ocular infections due to susceptible micro-organisms: Conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis,
corneal ulcers, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, acute meibomianitis.

Dosage and Administration


Mild - Moderate Infections:
Topical, to the conjunctiva: 1 drop every 4 hours, or 0.5 inch ribbon (ointment) 2 - 3 times daily.
Severe Infections:
Topical, to the conjunctiva: 1 drop every hours, or 0.5 inch ribbon (ointment) every 4 hours.
Treatment should be continued until improvement occurs. Following this, frequency of administration should be reduced.

Precautions
As with other antibiotics, prolonged or repeated therapy may result in bacterial or fungal overgrowth of nonsusceptible
organisms, in which case, appropriate measures should be taken.
TOBRIN should be used in pregnancy only when clearly needed.
During lactation, a decision should be made, whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, taking into account
the importance of the drug to the mother.

Contra_indications
Hypersensitivity, dendritic keratitis, vaccinia, varicella, mycobacterial infection of the eye, fungal diseases of the ocular
structure, use after uncomplicated removal of a corneal fereign body.

Side effects
Hypersensitivity (itching, redness, swelling, or other signs of eye or eyelid irritation not present before therapy) and less
frequently, burning or stinging of the eyes may occur.
