E: Answer the following questions in short:

Q.1. Name three animals belonging to phylum Porifera.
Ans. Sycon, Spongilla and Demosponge belong to phylum Porifera.

Q.2. How is the digestive cavity in Platyhelminthes?

Ans. The digestive cavity in Platyhelminthes found with single opening mouth, anus remains
absent in them.

Q.3. How does respiration take place in reptiles?

Ans. Respiration in reptiles takes place with the help of lungs.

Q.4. What are viviparous animals?

Ans. The animals who give birth to their young ones are called viviparous animals. Ex. Humans

Q.5. What kind of fertilization takes place in birds?

Ans. Internal fertilization takes place in birds.

Q.6. Which class of animals is most evolved?

Ans. Mammals are the most evolved animals.

Q.7. Name four members of class Mammalia.

Ans. Elephant, humans, cow, bear etc. are the members of this kingdom.

F: Answer the following questions in detail:

Q.1. Describe phylum Arthropoda and its sub groups.

Ans. Arthropods are invertebrates having complex muscular system and exoskeleton. They have
segmented body with jointed legs or appendages. Their body cavity is filled with blood
(haemocoel). Alimentary canal is complete in them and they respire through their body
surface. It is the largest phylum of animal kingdom. Subgroups of this phylum are Crustacea,
Myriapoda, Insect and Arachnida.
Q.2. Differentiate between Nematoda and Annelida.
Ans.
Nematoda Annelida
1. They have worm like unsegmented body. 1. They have true segmented body.
2. Alimentary canal is straight and complete
with mouth and anus. 2. Alimentary canal is tube like,
3. Most forms are parasitic. complete with mouth and anus.
4. They have pseudo body cavity. 3. They live in variety of habitat.
5. Sexes are separate. 4. They have true body cavity.
Ex. Round worm, pinworm 5. Sexes may be united or separate.
Ex. Earthworm, leech

Q.3. Describe the phylum Chordata and its classes.

Ans. Phylum Chordata: Chordates are organisms that, at some time during their development,
possess a rod called a notochord extending the length of their bodies at full development. The
notochord acts as support during movement.

1. Pisces: This class includes fishes. The fishes have streamlined bodies covered with scales.
Respiration takes place with the help of gills. They have two chambered hearts. They have
fins for locomotion. This class includes cold-blooded animals. Ex. Fish

2. Amphibia: Amphibians spend their lives both on land and in the water. Every amphibian
is born in the water with tails and gills; however, as these creatures grow, they develop legs,
lungs and the ability to live on land. Amphibians are cold-blooded animals. Ex. frogs,
newts, toads etc.

3. Aves: The members of this group are commonly known as birds. These are warm blooded
animals. Their forelimbs are modified into wings for flight. Teeth are absent and have highly
developed voice, hearing and vision. They are oviparous and fertilisation is internal. Ex
parrot, sparrow etc.

4. Reptiles: These are creeping and crawling vertebrates. Body is divided in head, neck,
trunk and tail. Respiration takes place with lungs. They have three chambered hearts. Most
of them are oviparous and internal fertilization takes place in them. Ex. Lizards, snakes etc.
5. Mammals: These are warm blooded and most developed animal. They are viviparous and
feed their babies with milk. They have hair on their bodies. Ex. Cow, man, elephant etc.

Q.4. Draw a flow chart representing animal kingdom.
