BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

A short interview

INTRODUCTION

Mrs. Casiano, a store manager and owner of Chesterfield store located at P-8 Alawihao,
Daet, Camarines Norte has run for 16 years as their business. It is a family business and it all
started with a humble beginning of placing a mini table outside the free space of their house. At
first, it is out of their plan to build a business as she is a voluntary teacher in a well-known
school and being discouraged by that time and her husband has a stable yet a long-distance job
though looking forward to keep it. Later on, Mrs. Casiano decided to be on full time taking
business enterprise as her husband told her so. They come up of financial assistance and fulfill
all needed requirements to start the same. And it is usual for an enterprise to encounter such
conflicts as it is part of their development. Afterwards, their humble beginnings already granted
as they pursue the business to be a successful one.

INSIGHTS

One of the communication barriers the store manager experienced was the language
barrier. Language and linguistic skills can be a communication barrier. Even when talking in the
same language, the terminology employed in a message might be a barrier if the receiver does
not completely comprehend it. Like what Mrs. Casiano said sometimes customers mistakenly
buy products and the latter will have to return what he has bought. If this scenario happens, the
store manager would ask the customer if they are really sure of what to buy for them to avoid
erroneous purchases. She also stated that she needs to be patient and understand the customers
because they are always right. By actively listening, the store manager was able to overcome this
barrier. Active listening is a talent that can be learned and improved through practice. However,
mastering this skill might be challenging, and it will need time and patience. 'Active listening,' as
the term implies, entails actively listening. That is, focusing entirely on what is being said rather
than simply hearing the speaker's message. Listening with all of your senses is what active
listening entails. It's crucial for the 'active listener' to be seen to be listening as well as paying full
attention to the speaker; otherwise, the speaker may decide that what they're talking about is
uninteresting to the listener. The individual speaking will usually feel more at ease after
receiving this 'feedback,' and will thus communicate more easily, openly, and honestly as a
result.
