Historical background
Peking Opera is a form of traditional Chinese theater that originated in Beijing in the late 18th
century. ... Up until that point in the early Qing dynasty (1644-1911), the educated nobility
favored Kunqu Opera, which was known for its elegant music and fine language.

. 1.SONG -The Beijing opera has six main types of song lyrics. These are

 emotive
 condemnatory
 narrative
 descriptive
 shared space separate sensations

The song lyrics where different from each other by the way they are presented. Majority of their songs
are within a pitch range of an octave and a fifth.
2. MUSIC - The accompaniment usually consists of a small ensemble of instruments. Jinghu, the lead
melodic instrument, is a small high pitched two string spike fiddle. The jinghu player follows the basic
contours of the song's melody, but diverges in pitch and other elements. The melodies played by the
accompaniment mainly fall into three broad categories;

 Aria - can be further divided into those of the Erhuang and Xipi varieties.
 Gupai - fixed tuned melody
 Percussion pattern - final type of musical accompaniment which provide context to the music in
ways similar to the fixed-tune melodies

3. STAGE SPEECH - uses both Classical Chinese and modern Standard Mandarin with some slang
terms added. The language used by the character determines his or her social position. There are three
major types of stage speech.
