FINAL EXAMINATION: TRENDS AND ISSUES ON PHYSICAL
EDUCATION AND SPORTS

READ, ANALYZE, & EXPLAIN THE POLARISING ISSUES IN PE & SPORTS

1. What are the common challenges or issue does physical educator encountered?

 Physical education is the vital tool to engage our learners in physical activity as well
as to test their physical ability, some common challenges or obstacle of being
educator usually faced in the school system studied were low salary, lack of materials
and poor infrastructures. Low salary seems to be related to other issues, such as the
need for extended working hours and insufficient training. With regard to the space
for PE, it is possible to identify differences between schools. While some schools
have covered spaces of suitable dimensions for physical practice, in other schools the
reality can be different. The criticism expressed by teacher, for example refers to the
size of a playground that is sufficient. Some of our learners complain headaches,
mainly triggered by exposure to the sun, as the playground has no coverage or
adequate conditions for PE. These cases related in to inadequate working conditions.
 Another problem is the lack of demarcation of the area for PE. Some schools have
only one area for PE. Some schools have only one area of PE and student’s recess.
Therefore, in such cases, classes must share the same space and time with students
from other grades in their recess. This situation makes the development of PE classes
extremely difficult and reveals depreciation related to the professional performance of
the PE teacher within the school’s setting.

the issues that can influence a person’s physical activity levels include: age, gender
and gender inequality, cultural diversity, access to facilities, risk management and
safety and access to physical activity for different population group e.g. children and

and challenges we as physical education teachers face throughout our career, it is easy
for us to become defeated, give in, and throw in the towel. Some take the route and
then decide to put minimal effort into what they do and hope to ride out their careers
until their retirement date. Others decide to tackle the challenges head on and “dance
in the rain” because they feel it is worth the fight to flourish in the storm. They
develop strategies to help combat the issues, allowing them to grow as educators and
to take their programs to much higher levels. This in turn, helps our profession grow
and gives our students the best chance to become physically literate for a lifetime. It
is that your attitude is everything, and how you decide to move forward in your career
is ultimately up to you.
