Tutorial-09
1. An undergraduate chemistry student conducted an Argentometric titration using K2CrO4 as the
indicator. The setup used for the experiment were as follows,
Burette held 0.1 mol L-1 AgNO3
Conical Flask held 10.0 mL of 0.05 mol L-1 NaCl (aq)
A white precipitate of AgCl (s) was formed in the conical flask.

1.1. Calculate the initial moles of NaCl (aq) presented in the conical flask.
1.2. 1.0 mL of AgNO3 (aq) was added to the conical flask.
1.2.1. Calculate the moles of AgNO3 (aq).
1.2.2. Calculated the moles of reacted NaCl (aq).
1.2.3. Calculate the moles of Cl- (aq) excess in the conical flask.
1.2.4. Calculate the concentration of Cl- (aq) in the conical flask.
1.3. After addition of 5.0 mL of AgNO3 (aq), reaction reached to the equivalence point. Ksp of the
reaction was 1.7 X 10 -10. Calculate the reacted concentration of Cl-(aq).
1.4. Another more 1.0 mL AgNO3 (aq) was added to the conical flask after the equivalence point.
1.4.1. Calculate the moles of excess Ag+ (aq) in the conical flask.
1.4.2. Calculate the concentration of excess Ag+ (aq) in the conical flask.
1.4.3. Calculate the concentration of Cl- (aq) in the solution as a result of dissociation of AgCl (s).

2. A researcher carried out the below procedure in a laboratory to determine the order of the following
reaction with respect to the ferrous solution.
2Fe3+ (aq) + 2I- (aq) I2 (aq) + 2Fe2+ (aq)

2.1. Why does the solution appear in blue colour at the end of the reaction?
As, Starch solution is added, the formed Iodine reacts with starch and the colour of the solution
turns to blue. (05 marks)

2.2. Find the concentrations of Fe3+ solution in the 5 beakers.

Beaker no. Calculation Concentration
