PROGRAM PROPOSAL

I. Title: Selection of Freshmen Students for Poseidon Class

II. Proponent: Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering First Year students
III. Target Date: Academic Year 2021-2022

IV. Rationale
The College of Maritime Education, Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering offers
well-educated professional teaching to students that deals with the design, development,
production and maintenance of the equipment used at sea and onboard sea vessels like boats,
ships etc. In this course, students are able to boost and enhance their skills, ability especially in
laboratory activity and develop their character in handling situational process and development
in ship. This includes repairing, designing, operating, and maintaining ships and the equipment
used in them. Students must have critical thinking in order to go through technical aspects of
ships and process and procedures as well.
In connection with this, CME Program Development Team (PDT) proposes a selection of
incoming freshmen students for Poseidon Class Academic Year 2021-2022.

V. Description
The BSMarE- Poseidon Class or sometimes called the BSMarE “Section A”, is a
program under the College of Maritime Education, Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering
where forty (40) incoming first year or freshmen students selected are chosen. They take
specific classes and additional in-house training programs concerning in marine engineering
concepts and discipline, basic mathematics principles, general sciences, trainings, trip, etc.
This class is a very unique program. Not only does it help students focus on subjects
centered on marine science, but it also helps them maintain a good work ethic, and can help
students work together in groups.

VI. Objectives
The selection of Poseidon Class for incoming freshmen A.Y. 2021-2022 are able to:
1. To enhance skills ability development;
2. To develop work ethic in focuses the subjects, and

3. To produce competent BSMarE graduates.

VII. Mechanics of Selection Poseidon Class

1. The CME PDT plan and evaluate the examination and interview guide questions to
show the competence of the students.
2. Students must undertake the examination and interview portion.
3. The examination guide questions were given to students using google forms with
allotted time limit.
4. The PDT’s were assigned as the panel for interview to the students during online
interview as google meet link provided.
5. The students must have general average percentage of 90% up in his/her SHS card.
6. The criteria for selection are show below with respective percentage;
