The presentation begins with the comparison of the duration of human existence to the age
of the Earth and then the beginning of the industrial era to the existence of humans on
Earth. He then presented a graphical representation to give a rough idea of how the global
GDP has changed all of sudden in the 21st century from being a flat line at the beginning
of human civilization thousands of years ago to industrialization in the recent centuries.
This sudden change is a result of the development of technology in modern times which
includes computers, especially the field of artificial intelligence. Today the level of
machine learning/artificial intelligence is nowhere near the intelligence of a mouse, but the
day when it will surpass the intelligence of humans, there might be negative consequences
if the objective goals of artificial intelligence are not set right.
The host used a visual of an exhausted worker sitting in his cabin with a gruesome look to
illustrate the human condition in modern times to evoke laughter in the audience. Then he
went on to show a graph that depicts the GDP of the world from the 8th century BC to the
21st century AD to outline the fact that technological advancements are the reason for
higher human productivity and GDP in the 21st century. He then showed a photo of a
human and an ape's brain to describe why humans excelled in intelligence and the
consequences that are upon us. The host also displayed the result of a survey from artificial
intelligence experts on when the machines will achieve Human-Level intelligence. The
host displayed an ample amount of visuals in his presentation to bolster his claims on the
future of artificial intelligence and his continual usage of photos made his presentation
uncomplicated for the audience.
The host restricted his moments at the center of the stage and kept his notes on the dais to
deliver the speech. The voice of the host was sedated and his personality seemed dignified.
He started the talk by introducing funny relevant images to seek the audience’s attendance.
This reflected his sense of humor that was necessary as the topic would otherwise become
complex for understanding. He used few gestures and his posture was upright that reflected
he was confident about his research and outlook for the future of artificial intelligence. The
best part was his optimism about the implementation of Human-level super intelligence in
machines.
