Differentiate Holistic/Natural Medicine from Conventional/Western Medicine?

Holistic Medicine is an approach to medicine that aims to improve the overall sense of well-being of a person
(bodily and emotionally), not just treating the symptoms of an illness. It addresses the whole person's body,
mind, and spirit. It emphasizes the body's own ability to heal itself, promotes healthy lifestyle changes, and
leaning to natural treatments and remedies rather than synthetically produced compounds. The primary
interventions are diet, exercise, herbal medicines,
manipulations. This approach considers humans as a
microcosm. Holistic doctors bridge the gap between traditional medical treatment and natural preventive care in
one well-rounded healthcare practice. It is usually used by non-medical practitioners such as naturopathy
practitioners, and patients. A disadvantage of this is the limited acceptance by
health insurance
companies.

Conventional medicine is a system wherein medical doctors and other healthcare professionals (such as
nurses, pharmacists, and therapists) treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation, or surgery. It is effective
in treating issues that are merely physical in nature and those requiring immediate attention. It treats the mind,
body, and spirit as separate entities. It considers humans as machines. This system is preferred because highly
trained
professionals or practitioners administer the treatments and they follow strict federal
guidelines and
regulations. The problem with this practice is that it often treats only the
symptoms and not the root of
a
condition.
