FLUE GAS

SYSTEM
PRODUCING INERT GAS ON BOARD

The most economic and adequate way to produce inert gas on board is to make use of the flue gas from the
ship’s boilers. The Maritime Protection Flue Gas system cools and cleans the flue gas and then distributes it
to the cargo tanks, typically during cargo discharge.

System description

Scrubber process
Flue gas from the boilers form the basis for the inert gas production.
The hot and dirty gases are drawn into the precooler where the flue gas
is cooled, once cooled the gas is then cleaned in the scrubber. The
cooled and cleaned inert gas is distributed to cargo tanks by high
pressure centrifugal blowers. Before entering the cargo tanks the inert
gas must pass through the deck water seal, this prevents a back-flow of
cargo gases. Gas freeing is performed by closing the scrubber isolation
valves and opening the fresh air valve, the system can be used to free
gas from the cargo tanks aer inerting. The different modes (IG and
fresh air) can easily be selected in the LCD control panel.
