FIRE SURVEY REPORT

Under instructions from Iffco-Tokio General Insurance Co. Ltd., I have attended the premises of
insured to conduct the survey and report upon alleges loss caused to insured property due to riot/
malicious act. Now I submit `Without Prejudice’ my report as under:-

INTRODUCTION:-
Kannadiparamga Service Co-operative Bank Ltd., is situated at Kannadiparamba P.O., Kannur
670704.It has branch at Pulloopi, N.P. 10.216A, Kannadiparamba P.O., Kannur. It is financed with
Kannur District Co. operative Bank.

The bank branch is situated at Kanadiparamba near Pullapi Kadav road. It function on first floor of
the two storey building on RH side. There is a stair in center of building. The stair has a door and it
used to be locked in night. On LH side at first floor there were tailoring shop. At ground floor one
electrical shop belongs to Mr Ramakrishana was threre. The building is owned by Sauda and insured
is a tenant here. Insured is doing business of banking since last two years at this branch.

Insured has covered the Veranda of his side on first floor with glass paneling fitted in aluminum
frame work. It had steel grill gate and covering also behind the door. There were sliding windows
facing the road. . It had glass door in AL frame work. The verandas were 4 ft X 33 ft long.
It had steel channel gate on first floor and wooden door to enter in bank premises.
This external glass paneling, doors and sliding window is constructed by insured to furnish the bank.
Incase of rainy seasons the rain water can be prevented to enter in veranda in front of bank .

Inside the bank premises there was a one wall partition for manger and a side counters for two staff. It
had a strong room and a safe inside.

Insured branch is about 8KM form Balipattanam police station which is the nearest one.

OCCURRENCE:-
At the time of my survey I met insured’s secretary Mr Janardan, Direcotr Mr Abdulla, Mrs Aniht
branch manager, Peon Mr Kunahiyahu, Appraiser Mr Radhakrishanan and locals. According to
them on 28.10.2010 at 21.30 hrs a group of people with deadly weapons broken the aluminium
fabrications, glass windows, name boards etc of the bank.

Kerala had panchayat election and there were wide spread riots and clashes in Kerala post election.
This bank director and staff leader of CPM and league peoples has been reported gathered and caused
damages to bank and other shops.

My inquiry reveals that about 150 peoples gathered and has attacked the premises and damaged the
building and furniture.

From ground floor shop they have taken and looted the stock of a electrical shop.
Since bank premises were first floor and it was locked at ground floor no one can reach to first floor.
The mob has pelted stoned and steel rods etc to damages the glass paneling almost fully and about
40% of aluminum fame work got bent and damaged.

INSPECTION & EXTENT OF DAMAGE:-

I have inspected the following damages:
The banks branch premises insured has the following external damages.
The first floor external glass paneling of veranda almost 90 % has been found broken. The aluminum
frame work about 40% has been found bent and damaged. The bottom side of railing was fixed glass
and in middle it was sliding windows. The length of veranda was 33 ft and height was 9 ft.. On
upper side again there was fixed glasses. The door measuring 7ft X3 ft too were broken.
Bank room one of sliding window only glass was broken.
No one has entered inside the bank premises and nor at the first floor veranda. Whatever damages
have been caused it is through the air route.
The manger cabin glass was intact and not broken.

Baliapattam Police Station, Kannur Dist, has registered the case as FIR No. 817 dated 29.10.2010.

`On 28.10.2010 at 21.30 hrs 1 to 5 numbers accused with the intention to commit offence assembled
unlawfully beaten to break the branch office of Kannadiparamba Service Co-operative Bank at
Kannadiparamba amsam Pulloopi so sustained the loss of Rs 1 ½ lakhs

CAUSE OF LOSS:-
As per claim form the cause of loss is `a group of persons including in FIR damaged the glass &
aluminum fabrication in front of the bank’s branch.’
The police has registered the case u/s 143/147/148/427/149. there is unlawful assembly
of more than 5 person with intention of damaging the property. The cause of loss
is strike and riot as per IPC and police has registered the case under it.
The peril is covered under the policy.

INSURED CLAIM:-
Insured has claimed Rs. 55,090/- and submitted an estimate from CABCOS Ltd., The Pinarayi
Carpentry & Black smithy Workers Industrial Co-op Society Ltd., P.O. Pachapoika, Kuthuparamba,
Kannur.

The estimate is as under:

Insured has initially reported a loss of rs.25,000/- only.

The amount claimed is Rs. 145/- per sq ft.

LOSS ASSESSMENT:-
My assessed loss is as under:-
Veranda glass paneling 90 % is broken and damaged. In order to repair it is to be dismantled and
necessary bent aluminum section about 30% needs to be replaced.
Out of two inside veranda window (of bank room) only one window glass was broken but the AL
frame was in good condition.
The manger cabin glass is not at all broken.

For Al section 3% depreciation @ of 1.5% per year is considered since it is 2 years old . No
deprecation is considered for glasses.
The assessment is discussed with secretary and he has agreed for it.

VALUE AT RISK:-
The sum insured for furniture and fittings Rs. 1, 50,000/- is adequate.

BREACH OF WARRANTY/POLICY CONDITION:-

Apparently complied with.

OBSERVATION & RECOMMENDATION:-

The loss is caused to insured property furniture and fittings and insured has insurable interest. This
furniture and fittings were built by insured.
The loss is caused due to riot and strike. It is an insured peril.
Police has been informed and FIR is registered and copy is enclosed.
The loss is occurred during policy period.

This report is issued `Without Prejudice’ and settlement of claim depends upon terms and condition of
Insurance policy.
