A. Introduction Panimula Product marketing is a process of promoting and selling a product to a customer.
Also, product marketing is defined as being the intermediary function between product
development and increasing brand awareness. For example, product management
deals with the basics of product development within a firm, whereas product
marketing deals with marketing the product to prospects, customers, and others.
Product marketing, as a job function within a firm, also differs from other marketing
jobs such as social media marketing, marketing communications ("marcom"), online
marketing, advertising, marketing strategy, and public relations, although product
marketers may use channels such as online for outbound marketing for their product.
Packaging is the science, art and technology of enclosing or protecting products
for distribution, storage, sale, and use. Packaging also refers to the process of
designing, evaluating, and producing packages. Packaging can be described as a
coordinated system of preparing goods for transport, warehousing, logistics, sale, and
end use. Packaging contains, protects, preserves, transports, informs, and sells. In
many countries it is fully integrated into government, business, institutional, industrial,
and personal use.
Creative packaging and labeling techniques
Every product that is available in the market has its own distinct packaging and
labelling. Packaging and labelling are important because they add to the marketability
of the product.
In order to succeed in the market, your product must be competitive. Most
companies invest time, effort, and resources on their product’s packaging and
labelling, to ensure that they are designed appropriately and that they are attractive and
distinct. Packaging and labelling are usually considered a part of the overall
“marketing strategy” to further promote the product.
Packaging
Any type of packaging is dependent on the form, texture, and nature of the
product. Some packaging requirements that should be considered for finished products
are the following...
1. Protection. The packaging should protect the product from its original location
to its destination, the distribution scheme that is undergoes, and the time or duration
the protection is required. The moistening of the product may happen during the
transporting of products.
2. Durability. Packaging materials must withstand the distribution stresses that
may be encountered. These stresses include stacking, dropping the package, abrasion
and the surface of the package that cause inlets for moisture.
Appearance. If you want to get the attention of the buyer,
you should make your packaging attractive to speak of the products’ identity. The
packaging should also give the needed information specified in labeling the products.
4. Disposability. The packaging should adhere to the rules of waste disposal.
Waste reduction must be the top priority when it comes to packaging.
5. Cost. Packaging should always offer an affordable cost to the buyer, taking
into consideration the required functions of packaging for the product.
Labeling Finished Product
Packaging comes with labeling. The government requires that we follow the
standards of labeling products. Labeling terminologies should be easily understood by
the customers. Important information in your finished product labels must include the
following… brand name, logo, materials used, safety precautions, and supplier or
manufacturers.
Labelling, on the other hand, serve the dual purpose:
• Providing the necessary information about the products such as its contents,
features, instructions as to its usage, and manufacturing information.
• Promoting the product with the use of branding, and attractive, colorful
marks.

Technology –assisted and other means of product marketing The following are
the appropriate marketing strategies that can be applied in selling enhanced or
decorated finished products.
1. Print Media. Finished products can be marketed in print advertisements such
as newsmakers, magazines, brochures, and flyers.
2. Product display. Finished products can be displayed and sold in exhibits,
markets and bazaars.
3. Internet marketing. This is promoting the finished products through the
internet, e-mail, and social networking sites. Consumers nowadays spend
most of their time surfing the Internet. Given the situation, entrepreneurs
specifically use various social networking sites such as Facebook and
Instagram and other websites (e.g. OLX Philippines, Ayos Dito, Sulit) or
applications (e,g. Viber, Facebook, Messenger) to reach their consumers.
With the help of these websites and applications, entrepreneurs are able to
post pictures of their products for free by making a personal account.
Transactions between the buyer and seller may be done using chat, call, or
text.

Computes Income from Sales

You should be able to come up with a competitive pricing for your finished products
but you have to make sure that you will have a good revenue in return. You must be
aware of the current prices of these products, though inspecting other sellers and know
how to compute your product income from sales are some of the methods that you can
adopt in computing your product’s income.
Computing for Earnings
A person or group who ventures into business has one ultimate goal: to earn
profit. The continued existence of the business is highly dependent on the following
factors:
• Ability to sell products and/or services and
• Ability to keep operating costs and expenses down while maintaining the
quality of merchandize.
The formula for computing business profit is as follows:
Profit (business income) = Sales (Revenue) - Expenses Profit
(business income) is the amount earned from the sales of products and/or services
after operating costs and expenses have been deducted.
Sales (revenue) is the amount of money received from the customer in
exchange for the product and/or service provided and sold.
Expenses include the amount paid/spent to produce the
product or undertake the service including the cost of:
• Materials and equipment
• Labor
• Packaging and labelling
• Marketing and promotions
• Damage to goods and spoilage
• Utilities (electricity, water, transportation, telephone, internet, etc.)
• Other expenses Sample computation
1. Sold 25 wooden jewelry boxes in a month with a selling price of PHP150
each item. To get the total revenue, multiply the selling price of the item with
the total items sold.

Selling price PHP 150.00

Total items sold x 25____
Total sales (revenue) PHP 3,750.00
2. To get the total expenses, add expenses in a month such as utilities, bills and
transportation of sold products.
Electricity PHP 400.00
Water 350.00
Telephone 500.00
Transportation
300
Total expenses PHP 1550.00

3.Compute the business income by deducting the total revenue with total expenses.

Total revenue PHP 3,750.00

Total expenses
PHP 1,550.00
Profit (business Income) PHP 2,200.00

In computing profit (business income), to determine if the

business is going well, your total revenue (sales) must be more that your total
expenses so you will not have negative income.
