1. Apolinario Mabini's Memoirs of the 1896 Philippine Revolution

In this memoir, entitled “Philippine Revolution” or “La Revolution”, was published on 1896 and written
by Apolinario Mabini, the Filipino revolutionary leader, educator, lawyer and statesman who served first
as a legal and constitutional adviser to the Revolutionary Government, and then as the first Prime
Minister of the Philippines upon the establishment of the First Philippine Republic, also called as the
“Brain of the Revolution”. Mabini carried out all his political and governmental operations, despite losing
the use of both his legs to polio shortly before the Philippine Revolution of 1896. He wrote this memoir
based on what he knows and witnessed about the Revolutionary.

In the first step of the revolution, the author stated that all the alleged members of the Masonic secret
brotherhood were abused and persecuted because they were part of the movement against the rule of
the colony. Many citizens died and were executed in court-martial terms, some of them suffering from
incarceration and deportation. Jose Rizal was banished to Dapitan in 1892 and exiled for three
consecutive years. He was killed by a firing squad because he was the reason why the Filipinos despised
the Spaniards or the country of Spain. Paterno and General De Rivera were the initiators of the
Honorable Peace Treaty or the so-called 'Paris Treaty.' Peace Deal between the United States of America
and the Kingdom of Spain. Next, Aguinaldo agreed to be exiled to Hong Kong in exchange for 400,000
pesos, 200,000 for the Philippine king, and 200,000 for the Filipino arms to be surrendered. Soon after
his arrival in Hong Kong, he prepared a strategy for the military government, and Aguinaldo bought the
arms that his troops would need to continue fighting. Next, the Aguinaldo agreed to be exiled to Hong
Kong in exchange for 400,000 pesos, 200,000 for the Philippine king, and 200,000 for the Filipino arms to
be surrendered. Soon after his arrival in Hong Kong, he prepared a plan for the military government, and
Aguinaldo bought the arms that his troops would need to continue fighting.

What happened next is the author outlined the progress of the revolution. Mabini was a member of the
Philippine Revolution, and he was imprisoned as one of the founders of the revolution. He suffered a
paralytic stroke six months before the revolt, and the attribute to this situation has not been beaten up.
In the case, he was subject to the declaration of the amnesty of General Primo de Rivera and released by
virtue. Two months before the declaration of war, it appeared and soon followed the extinction of the
Spanish fleet in the Philippines by Admiral Dewey in 1898. Mr. Aguinaldo is returning from Hong Kong to
the islands. When the final, on arrival, announced to the people the readiness of the United States to
help the Filipinos recover their natural rights, everyone thought that the government of the United
States accepted Aguinaldo as the leader of the Filipino people. This perception was reinforced by the
ambiguous remarks made by the American commanders. President McKinley dismantled the Spanish
monarchy, but only to replace it with another in the American way of sovereignty. The party ended with
a quotation that God would grant the Americans not to forget their country's founder.

The author has appointed the Culmination and the Fall of the Revolution. It dealt here with how
Aguinaldo sees Luna as a challenge in his reign because of Luna's unspeakable leadership ability. When
Luna died, he appointed a new general named Gregorio Del Pilar, a 23-year-old man. He was chosen as
the new general because he was loyal to Aguinaldo, but later he died while Aguinaldo fled the
Americans. The revolutions have failed because of Aguinaldo’s incompetence
The memoir portrayed that many events had taken place in the Philippine Revolution. Mabini wrote
precisely what had happened before, during, and after the revolution, and how the Philippine revolution
had begun. Mabini 's memoir is a perfect primary source because of his description of the incident and
the evidence and some of his view. Also, because he is really there when that Revolution happened.
There’s so many important historical information in his memoir.

2. Emilio Aguinaldo's Memoirs of 1896 Revolution

In this memoir, “Mga Gunita ng Himagsikan” was written by Emilio Aguinaldo. He is a Filipino
revolutionary, politician, and military leader officially recognized as the first and youngest president of
the Philippines and the first president of the new republic in Asia. This memoir was published in 1998.
Also, this is based on Emilio Aguinaldo’s diary that he preserved. He stated here some important events
but it is contradicting to what others said. In his memoir, he seemed to be a kind leader who cares for
his men. During the time that he wrote this memoir, he was appointed as the Chairman of the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts.

His war happened on 1 November 1896 to assault the detachment of Spanish soldiers in Bañadero,
Tanauan, Batangas. They learned during the war that the entire province of Cavite had been liberated. In
this battle, his friend Candido Tria Tirona was killed and a lot of wounded and killed. Next, when
Bonifacio was invited to Cavite, Andres Bonifacio and his men were defeated by the Spanish after
Bonifacio and his mom, Gregoria de Jesus, his two daughters. Procopio and Ciriaco, General Lucino, and
20 soldiers entered Cavite on 1 December 1896, and Aguinaldo battled in Zapote, Arumahan, Las Piñas,
and PintongBato, Bacoor. Once again, the waters of the Zapote River turned red with human blood.
Then, the Magdiwang Council was re-organised, and the elections for Aguinaldo 's presidency followed.
A thousand Cazadores invaded the Naic neighborhood and the death of the Bonifacio brothers was the
last incident in the memoirs of Aguinaldo. They were found guilty of disloyalty and treachery against the
revolutionary government, and of sedation and revolt. Aguinaldo demanded that their penalty be
reduced. Because of the protection of Filipino unity. He decided to exile them in a mountain called Pico
de Loro. But Generals del Pilar and Noriel informed him that the Brothers of Bonifacio were a threat to
him and to their revolutionary government. After a lot of talk, Major Macapagal took the Bonifacio
brothers to Mount Tala, and they were shot. Aguinaldo was not aware of the execution, since he was
busy fighting in Maragondon, and he learned it days later.

Emilio Aguinaldo's memoirs of the Philippine Revolution seem to be part of what happened back then.
He explained what he knew, and what he saw, as he narrated his point of view. His details are similar
enough to the writings and memoirs of other sources, but some of his details are different from others.

The memoir portrayed that the Philippine revolution had just begun before the Tejeros convention and
the death of Bonifacio 's brothers. A primary source that is very short, but also has the potential to
provide information from the past.
