BRIEF INTRODUCTION
MUSIC : Wayang Kulit
Diversed people and cultural backgrounds composed the Indonesian nation.
Extraordinary has often been the description of their musical culture. Their world music
contribution is highlighted by the Gamelan ensemble popularity as well as their theatrical
performances. Aside from the Gamelan, The Asian’s famous shadow puppet theater
Wayang Kulit is also known in Indonesia. The key figure in the performance of the
Wayang Kulit is known as “Dalang” or the puppeteer. The Dalang must be talented that
he or she can carry out various roles, voices and sounds, either he or she could be a
narrator, singer, director, conductor of the Gamelan and animator of the puppets. In this
lesson, you will be able to explore Wayang Kulit, perform the role of Dalang and create
your own shadow puppet theatre.
ARTS : ART TIME! Lantern Festivals of Thailand(SKILLS DEVELOPMENT)
The Sky Lantern(Yi Peng) Festival of Thailand is held not just in this country but also in
China, Taiwan, and other neighboring countries. This event is about the launching of
lanterns which are actually small hot air balloons. Each release of a sky lantern is a
petition, small prayer, or good wishes of the person who released the lantern. This event is
held on a full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. In the western
calendar this usually falls in November.
PE: EXECUTES THE SKILLS INVOLVED IN THE DANCE “SUA-KU-SUA” (1ST PART)
Aside from being known as fierce warriors, the Tausug of Jolo, Sulu are also remarkable
as seafarers and farmers. In Sulu, extensive orchards are planted with coconuts and
pomelos and the fields with staples like rice and root crops. Pomelo fruits serve as an
important source of income of the people of Sulu. Their dependence on pomelo fruits for
their livelihood inspired them to create Sua-ku-sua dance. The movements of the dance
compare sua’s gentle leaves, slender branches, attractive fruits, and fragrant flowers to a
lady. During the performance, the couples sing while flapping two white fans which
represent the leaves rustling in the wind. The performers, especially women, dance with
faces thickly covered with finely ground rice powder. Their eyebrows and sideburns are
enhanced with soot for aesthetic purposes.

HEALTH: Impact of Drinking Alcohol on the family and the community
Alcoholism affects the society so much. It is the dependence to the substance that
causes the mental illness and compulsive behavior. An alcoholic person is when he/she
starts drinking obsessively and compulsively without his or her control. People under the
influence alcohol sometimes shows uncontrollable behavior that causes harm to others.
In this module, you will understand how drinking alcohol affects the school, family and
community and how will you contribute to lessen or prevent the effects of it.

ACTIVITY #2

Direction:
Create your own version of 2-minute shadow puppet performance. Make your
own story and simple shadow puppets. Make sure that your performance is
accompanied by Gamelan music. Practice how to manipulate the puppets based
on your story. Video-record your presentation and send it to your teacher.

performance and submit to your teacher.
