Members of the UMass Global Faculty Personnel Committee

Dear All,

I am writing this letter in support of Dr. Jenny Good’s application for promotion to Associate
Professor. It is my pleasure to do so, as it has been my pleasure to work closely with Dr. Good since
she began at the university over four years ago.

I first met Dr. Good when I served as her first-year faculty mentor. We emailed and talked
frequently during that year, and from the beginning I found Dr. Good to be eager to become an
integral part of what was then Brandman, and of the Psychology CT. She was motivated and
dedicated to her work from the very beginning, and she took suggestions and advice to heart.
From then until now, she continues to develop her skills as a teacher and mentor, and even in the
short time she’s been here she’s contributed a great deal of service to University and to the
Psychology CT.

Regarding teaching, Dr. Good creates beautifully designed and content rich courses. I have
learned from her course designs and copied some of her innovative ideas. I’m sure that her
students learn a great deal from her courses. She also demonstrates a high degree of caring and
concern for her students, and she readily seeks advice to learn to manage difficult situations or to
improve her knowledge and skills.

Regarding mentoring, the mentee has become the mentor. Dr. Good has mentored new full-time
faculty and provided mentoring to adjuncts who teach her courses. As with her students, she
demonstrates care and concern for faculty member’s well-being and strives to assist them in
whatever way possible. She is there for them when they need advice or have questions. I’m sure
that anyone who is fortunate enough to be mentored by Dr. Good is in very good hands.

Regarding service, even though she’s only starting her fifth year at the University, she has already
engaged in a great deal of service. She served on FPC, and as Vice Chair of that committee, for 2
years. And in that capacity last year she also served on the Group of 8 committee. This involved
participating in many meetings, reviewing documents, and participating in tasks related to the
transition to Umass Global. I also served on this committee and can attest to Dr. Good’s astute and
valuable input. She is in her second year serving as the Vice Chair of Psychology. In this position
Dr. Good has engaged in a very long list of activities, including, but limited to, running adjunct
faculty meetings, finding and posting information from all of the states where we offer our MA MFT
program, taking minutes for all Psychology CT meetings, creating a coding system to evaluate

adjunct faculty, and providing support for faculty members who need assistance. Dr. Good has
become an integral, important, and highly valued part of the Psychology CT, and I appreciate what
she brings to our team both personally and professionally. Dr. Good is the soul of collegiality in
everything she does, and she works very well with widely diverse groups of people.

In conclusion I highly and without reservation recommend Dr. Jenny Good for promotion to
Associate Professor. She has earned this promotion and look forward to continuing to work with
her and watching her contribute to the University.

If I can provide any other information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully,

Marnie K. Elam, PhD
