3. Cupric sulfate
Formula: CuSO4
GHS Pictogram:
a. Environmentally Damaging (Both Acute and Chronic Aquatic Toxicity)- Toxic to Aquatic
Environment with both short and long term effects
c. Health Hazard (Single Target Organ Toxicity with Single and Repeated Exposure,
Reproductive and Respiratory Hazard, etc.)- Copper sulfate may induce severe gastroenteric
distress (vomiting, gastroenteric pain, and local corrosion and hemorrhages), prostration,
anuria, hematuria, anemia, increase in white blood cells, icterus, coma, respiratory
difficulties, and circulatory failure.
d. Respiratory Tract Irritant-May cause oral and respiratory irritation of the when fumes and
mist are inhaled.
Chemical Incompatibility:
a. Hydroxylamine (Weak Inorganic Base)-Ignition occurs in mixing Cupric Sulfate and
Hydroxylamine
b. Magnesium Hydroxide (Strong Inorganic Acid) -Magnesium will be oxidize rapidly as
there is high water content in Copper sulfate. Then magnesium ions will displace copper ions.
