TOPIC: Quadrilaterals
OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the learners CAN construct triangles, squares, rectangles, regular pentagons, and regular hexagons by:
1.1 classifying quadrilaterals according to its side and angle measures.
1.2 describing the different types of triangles according to side and angle measures.
1.3 categorizing the type of triangle based on its characteristics namely: the sides and the angle measures.

I. FOCUS LESSON

Activity 1.1
4 PICS 1 WORD
- is a word guessing game
- It presents you with four pictures and then tasks you with guessing what specific word fits with
the theme of the photos presented.

Linking Statement

Were you able to guess the word that fits with the theme of the photos presented above? A quadrilateral is a
polygon with four edges and four vertices. Other names for quadrilateral include quadrangle, tetragon and 4-
gon. Today, we are going to construct triangles, squares, rectangles, regular pentagons, and regular hexagons.
You will work with a partner.

II. GUIDED INSTRUCTION

Essential bits of instructions

Directions: Read the following concept notes then after that answer the checking for
understanding.

Quadrilaterals are classified as follows:

 Parallelogram- a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.
 Rhombus- a quadrilateral with four congruent side
 Rectangle- a quadrilateral with four right angles
 Square – a quadrilateral with four congruent angles and four congruent sides.
 Trapezoid- a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides.

TOPIC: Fundamental Elements of a Circle

OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the learners CAN illustrate a circle and the terms related to it: radius, diameter chord, center, arc,
chord, central angle, and inscribed angle by:
2.1 identifying the parts of a circle.
2.2 describing the parts of a circle.

I. FOCUS LESSON
Activity 2.1
4 PICS 1 WORD

C E L C R I

1. How did you get your answer?

___________________________________________________________________________

Linking Statement

Were you able to guess the word that fits with the theme of the photos presented above? A
circle is a shape consisting of all points in a plane that are a given distance from a given
point, the centre; equivalently it is the curve traced out by a point that moves in a plane so
that its distance from a given point is constant. Today, we are going to illustrate a circle and
the terms related to it: radius, diameter chord, center, arc, chord, central angle, and inscribed
angle. You will work with a partner.

II. GUIDED INSTRUCTION

Essential bits of instructions

Directions: Read the following concept notes then after that answer the checking
for understanding activity.

A CIRCLE is a closed curve all points of which are equidistant from a fixed point called the
CENTER. Circles are named by their centers.
Terms related to the circle:

1. RADIUS – a segment whose endpoints are the center of the circle and any point on the
circle.
2. CHORD – a segment whose endpoints are any two points on the circle.
3. DIAMETER – a chord which passes through the center of a circle and whose length is
twice that of a radius.
4. SECANT – a line that intersects the circle in two points (line that contains a chord).
5. TANGENT – a line that intersects the circle at exactly one point. This point is called the
point of tangency.
6. CENTRAL ANGLE – an angle formed by two radii of a circle and whose vertex is the
center of the circle.
7. ARC – a part or portion of a circle.
8. SEMICIRCLE - half a circle.
9. MINOR ARC – less than half a circle.
10. MAJOR ARC – more than half a circle.
11. INTERIOR POINT – is the set of points whose distances from the center are less than
the radius.
12. EXTERIOR POINT – is the set of points whose distance from the center is greater than
the radius.
