Good afternoon everybody! Are we still okay?

By the way, I am Amanda Marie Hora 2 nd year

student of BS in Accountancy and let me continue the discussion.
Having the knowledge about sustainable development, let us look on the timeline of the
transition of development goals.
Rio Earth Summit 1992
Earth Summit 1992 produced the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, the
Statement of Forest Principles, and Agenda 21. The Earth Summit also led to the establishment
of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change (UNFCCC).
NSDS1 1999
National Skills Development Strategy
MDG 2015
Millennium Development Goals are the international community's most broadly shared,
comprehensive and focused framework for reducing poverty. Drawn from the Millennium Declaration,
adopted and agreed to by all Governments in 2000, the MDGs represent the commitments of United
Nations Member States to reduce extreme poverty and its many manifestations: hunger, disease,
gender inequality, lack of education and access to basic infrastructure, and environmental
degradation.
EU Accession 2007
The accession of the European Union to the Convention denotes the process whereby
the European Union will join the community of 47 European states which have entered a legal
undertaking to comply with the Convention and have agreed to supervision of their compliance
by the European Court of Human Rights.
NSDS2 2008
National Skills Development Strategy
Interministerial Committee 2011
Inter-ministerial Committee for Sustainable Development is a high political decision-making
body, integrating all environment/development aspects implementing the MDG. This way, the
NFPs are part of a technical and political coordinating mechanism, therefore ensuring the
cooperation of the three NFPs with regard to the synergic implementation of RC within the wider
context of achieving MDGs. The recommendations are being currently analysed by the host
ministry in view of further institutionalization of the proposed mechanism.
Rio + 20 2012
The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development - or Rio+20 - took place in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil on 20-22 June 2012. It resulted in a focused political outcome document which
contains clear and practical measures for implementing sustainable development.
In Rio, Member States decided to launch a process to develop a set of Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), which will build upon the Millennium Development Goals and
converge with the post 2015 development agenda.

2015 TIME FOR GLOBAL ACTION

The United Nations has launched the campaign 2015 Time for Global Action as this presents
a historic and unprecedented opportunity to bring the countries and citizens of the world
together to decide and embark on new pathways forward and improve the lives of people
everywhere. These decisions will determine the global course of action to end poverty, promote
prosperity and well-being for all, protect the environment and address climate change.
2030 AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (SDGs)
The Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global
goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all". The
SDGs were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be
achieved by the year 2030.
AGENDA 41
A process that aims to integrate the social, environmental, and economic aspects of
development in order that all future development is 'sustainable'. It has 3 objectives mainly:

 Improve the living standards of those in need

 Better manage and protect the ecosystem
 Bring about a more prosperous future for all
Just like other agendas, it also faced some challenges. The agenda…

 Did not address the interconnectedness of the various goals with sectoral and inter-
country outcomes.
As a recap…
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
Are eight goals with measurable targets and clear deadlines for improving the lives of the
world's poorest people. To meet these goals and eradicate poverty, leaders of 189 countries
signed the historic millennium declaration at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000. At
that time, eight goals that range from providing universal primary education to avoiding child and
maternal mortality were set with a target achievement date of 2015.
Goal 1: Eradicate extreme hunger and poverty
The programme areas targeted by this goal are the Children, food, security, and nutrition,
Culture and Development, and conflict prevention and peacebuilding
Goal 2: To achieve universal primary education
This is to to "ensure that by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike will be required to
complete a full course of primary schooling."
Goal 3: To promote gender equality and empower women
The programme areas targeted by this goal are the Gender equality and women’s
empowerment, Culture and Development and Conflict Prevention and Peace building
Goal 4: To reduce child mortality
This requires more rapid scale up of key effective, affordable interventions: care for newborns
and their mothers; infant and young child feeding; vaccines; prevention and case management
of pneumonia, diarrhea; malaria control; and prevention and care of HIV/AIDS.
Goal 5: To improve maternal health
It is considered as key to saving the lives of more than half a million women who die as a result
of complications from pregnancy and childbirth each year. Investing in better maternal health
not only improves a mother’s health and that of her family, but also increases the number of
women in the workforce and promotes the economic well-being of communities and countries.
Now, my friend Lawrence will continue the rest of the MDGs.
