PART 1

Before Getting Started:

1. Make sure that your system meets all minimum technical requirements and specifications
(see Student-Parent Handbook).

2. Make sure you can communicate with your teacher by having access to a working email
account.
a. Accounts like gmail.com, yahoo.com, and hotmail.com are recommended.

3. Set up a signature on your email that will include your full name and your school name.
If you need help setting this up, please contact your instructor.

4. Create or add your instructor to your Skype account.

5. Visit the Colegia webpage at https://new.colegia.org/ and get acquainted with all of its
features and capabilities. (you will need to log in using a provided username and
password)

Downloading Skype: https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/

1. Save the Skype Setup Application to your computer.


2. Find and double click the Skype Setup file then follow the simple steps to complete the
installation.
3. Launch the Skype application and sign in with your Skype Name and password

1. Click on “Sign In” and then “Sign up”.

2. You can sign up using either your phone number or an email address. Follow the prompts to
create a password for Skype.

3. When prompted by Skype, enter your full name, country/region, and birthdate.

4. A code will be sent to your email address or phone number. You will need to use that code to
verify your account.

5. Complete the security activity displayed in the box. This just verifies that you’re a real person.

After that, your account will be created.

6. Add a picture to Skype.

7. Test your audio and video to make sure they are working.

1. Sign in to Skype.

2. In the menu bar, click on Contacts, and then New Contact

3. In the search field, enter the email address, full name or Skype Name of the person you want to add,
and then click Find.

4. Now you need to send the person a contact request. Enter some text to introduce yourself and
click Send.

5. The contact is added to your contact list, but will appear offline until they accept your request.
When they have accepted your request, you can see when they are online, and make free voice calls
and video calls with them.

Calling/Messaging Your Instructor

1. In Skype, type their name into the search area.

2. Find the person you want to call.

3. Click the contact. You will see their details in the main window. Then click on the camera icon in the
upper right hand corner to video call them, or on the phone icon to call without using video.

4. The screen changes color, a call bar appears near the bottom of the screen and you will hear ringing
until the other person answers.

5. If you don't hear the other person or they can't hear you, click the call quality icon in the call bar (you
may have to move your mouse to make the call bar appear).

Part 2: Getting Into Your Courses:

1. Go to Colegia – https://new.colegia.org/

2. Enter your username (username@ais.colegia.org) and click on “Sign In”. If you are a new
student, your username is the same username from your admissions test followed by
@ais.colegia.org. If you are returning student, your username has not changed from last year.

For example – If your login for the admissions test was jsmith001, your Colegia username
will be jsmith001@ais.colegia.org

3. Enter your Colegia username again, as mentioned in #2, and your password. If this is your
first time logging in, your temporary password will be welcome123.

4. If this is your first time logging in, you will be prompted to complete security questions.
Answer all security questions and click “Save and Continue”.

5. You will be then prompted to reset your password. Your password must have at least 8
characters including 1 uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 number, and 1 special character.
Click “Save”.

6. To access your courses, go to Colegia, scroll down on the Dashboard to “My Apps” and click
on Cosmos.

7. When you click on Cosmos, it will take you to the home-screen for your courses. From the
Home screen you can:
a. Review Announcements for important class information.
b. Use the To-do List to see and open upcoming and past-due assignments. By default,
the To-do List displays assignments with due dates coming up within seven days.
c. Quickly check your current course scores and progress on gradable activities
displayed on the Course Cards; select a Course Card to access its Course Home.
d. Review your recent activity, starting from the most recent, using the Activity
Stream; click the posts to open the activity or announcement listed.
e. View the Dual Diploma Academic Policies: Academic Integrity Policy, Late work
Policy, Grading Scale, and Graduation Requirements

8. You can also access your courses, grades, announcements, and calendar by clicking on
the three lines next to ‘Student App” in the upper left-hand corner to open
the Main Menu and navigate to the following tools:
• Student App: Student App is the Cosmos landing page and starting point for navigating
the app.
• Grades: This is where you will be able to see your grades for each course.
• Communication: You can also access course announcements here.
• Calendar: The Calendar displays due date notifications. Select a date or view for a list of
activities.
• You will also see your courses listed here and can click on one to access the activities and
lessons.

9. After clicking on a specific course from the Main Menu you will be able to:
a. The Activities Tab will give you access to your course containing all lessons and
assignments.
b. The Grades tab will give you access to track your progress in that specific course.
c. Review Announcements for that specific course.
d. Use the Calendar to see and open upcoming and past-due assignments. By default,
the Calendar function displays assignments with due dates coming up within seven
days.

10. To submit an assignment in a course, click on that specific assignment number or name.
You can attach files and enter text into an editor. To complete a submission:

a. Scroll down to the Submission Portion of the assignment.


b. Add comments using the text editor.
c. Click the blue circle with a plus sign with the activity open.
d. Select Attach a file.
e. Click on Choose to attach a document from your computer.
f. Click Submit my Work to turn in your assignment.

11. To Check Your Grades: The Grades tool enables you to track your progress in many
specific areas. To view your progress, open the Grades tool from the Main Menu. If you are
enrolled in multiple courses and have all courses selected in the Course Chooser, Cosmos shows you
an overview of your progress in your courses including:
a. Your overall score.
b. Your overall progress on completing gradable activities.
c. Your overall progress on completing all activities.

12. To view detailed progress in a course, open the Grades tool from the Main Menu and click
the course or select it from the Course Chooser. Here, you find:
a. The Grades view, which shows you your overall percentage; your percentage of
completed gradable activities, overall activities, and quizzes; and the due date,
submission date, status, and your individual score on every graded activity. You can
choose to view the information organized by Categories or Syllabus Order. From
this view, you can also print your grades.
b. The What If view, which helps you calculate possible grade outcomes.
c. The Activity view, which displays each activity you’ve worked in, when you started
working on it, and how long you’ve spent in it.
d. To see teacher feedback on a specific assignment, click on the assignment name.

13. To access Maestro from Colegia, scroll down to “My Apps” and click on “Maestro”.

14. Once you log in, you will see your dashboard. To update your email address, scroll down to
“My Account” under “My Settings”. This is where you can update your contact information
and you can add a picture!

Part 3: Getting into Burlington English (English I and English II students ONLY):

1) Plug your headset into your computer.

2) Click on the Burlington English icon in Colegia. (https://www.colegia.org/)

3) When you enter Burlington, select the Courses tile from your dashboard.

4) Select your course from the main menu.

5) Select Student Lessons to work on your assignments.

6) Select the module and the lesson from the menu.
