Procedure:
In this step-by-step guide, we’ll review the process of installing Windows Server 2012. In exactly 21 easy-to-
follow steps, you’ll be running your very own Windows Server 2012 system.
1. Open VMWare Player 12 once it is installed, click Create a New Virtual Machine

3. Choose Microsoft Windows

4. Enter the Windows Server R2 Product Key. Type the serial key:
DBGBW-NPF86-BJVTX-K3WKJ-MTB6V, then click next

5. Select the “Split virtual disk into multiple files” option. Hit next when you’re happy with the
settings.

6. This brings you to the confirmation page. Click “Customize Hardware”

7. In the hardware options section select the amount of memory you want the VM to use.

8. This brings you back to the confirmation page. Click Finish this time
10. Take the defaults on the Language screen, and click Next.

11. Click Install now on the install screen.

12. Click the second line item for the GUI. The default install is now Server Core. Then click Next.

13. Read License Agreement, Turn on Checkbox “I accept the license terms,” and then click Next.

14. Click Custom: Install Windows only (Advanced).

15. The disk you are using should be listed. If not, you will need to Load driver. Select the disk you will be
installing on. If you do not want to change drive options (optional), Click Next. If you want to use Dual boot

using Native Boot To VHD (Boot2VHD), see below:

16. [Optional:] Click drive options; then you can create custom partitions.
17. It will then start copying files. This will take a while (could be 20 mins or so depending on hardware
performance).It will reboot a couple times (automatically). After the first reboot, it will no longer be running

off of the DVD.
18. In the Password box, enter a new password for this computer. It must meet complexity requirements. Re-
enter the password in the second password box, and then click Finish.

19. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete at the same time to get the login screen

The Desktop will be displayed and Server Manager will be opened automatically.
21. Pressing Windows Key on the keyboard will bring up the start screen (formerly known as Start Menu). If
you Right-Clickon Computer, you will see the new right-click menu is on the bottom of the screen instead of

in a dropdown box. SelectProperties.
22. You will see that the System Properties screen looks almost identical to prior versions of windows. We
can now change the computer name by clicking on Change Settings.

23. Type new computer name you would like to use and click OK.

24. Click OK on the information box. Click OK to allow a restart.
26. When the computer restarts it will have the new name, just login.
22. Next thing we need to do is get network interfaces configured. it is obvious to use static ip address
for the server. Since the server will be act as DNS server, for DNS server field you can use local host
address 127.0.0.1

27. Press the Windows Logo in the keyboard and search for “windows firewall”. Turn off windows
firewall for private and public network.
