JiProposal Title: Potato (Solanum tuberosum) Peels as an Alternative Source Material for Paper Making

Members: Allana Jane D. Abante.

Introduction: Deforestation is the clearing of vast areas of trees, largely as a result of human
activities. Flood and droughts soil erosion increases the slow foils, due to that the specific cycle
of flood and drought started. Air pollution there are consequences for forest destruction. Its
biggest disadvantage is in the form of air pollution, the air where there is lack of trees gets
polluted, the problem of air pollution is the highest in the cities there people suffer from many
diseases especially breathing problems such as asthma. Global warming has a direct impact on
the natural climate change thereby increasing the global temperature .This contributes to global
warming which has direct impact to humans.

Potato peels represent the major waste from the potato processing industry, and they can be
revalorized as a source of functional and bioactive compounds with particular attention to phenolic
acids.

Hence, potato waste represents reassuring cheap resources and its recovery and utilization within the food
chain could be a long-lasting strategy to address the current challenges of the industrialized world.

Potatoes are one of the most frequently consumed crops in the world, which is related with their effect on
residue generation. The disposition of this waste create a challenge. Potato peels establish a major waste
of potato processing that ranges from 15 to 40% of the initial product’s mass; thus, their enhancement
should be of interest to the food industry  (Akyol et al. 2016; Gebrechristos and Chen 2018).

Objectives:
1. To evaluate the quality of the alternative paper Potato Peels
2. To determine the significant difference between the alternative product and commercialized
product.
3. To determine which among the alternative paper from Potato Peels and Commercialized paper
will decompose faster.

Materials:

Knife Sponge
Towel Flat iron
Bleach Chopping board
Blender Wire screen
Basin Woven screen
Methodology:
The materials needed are; knife and chopping board to cut the potato peels, blender it to make the
chopped potato peels into a paper pulp, Bleach to whiten the made pulp, wire screen to get the freely
floating pulp in the basin, woven screen to intact and drain the captured paper pulp, Sponge and a towel to
sip the remaining water, blower to totally dry the paper pulp. Flat iron, is using to flatten the surface of the
paper pulp. Potato Peels collected in the farm, market and households
