Psychology

Quantitative and qualitative

approaches
Education has always been seen as the acquisition of
knowledge. Quantitative approaches involve measuring things to
create categories that function according to the relevant
subjects. But qualitative approaches switch the outlook, gather
realistic information that involves 2 models. The emotionalist
model, and the constructionist model.

Describing and analysing findings

Qualitative information usually takes the form of direct
records of events and their meaning.
interpreting this diverse information may invouve
selecting key topics and reporting of them in order to
develop the best possible academic environments.

Applying psychology
‘Pure’ psychology can help us understand basic It is important to evaluate real-life applications
areas such as learning, memory, motivation, of psychological ideas, rather than rely on ideas
etc. And there are many factors that interact that are derived purely from the original
or combine to give rise to a number of abstract theories far removed from the realities

based factors.

Differing perspectives
the main idea of perspective psychology is to investigate
any topic from different points of view as alternative ways
of approaching a problem.

For example:

When students are more alert, they are also more likely to
respond to other strategies that will focus them on their
work, such as the use of praise (associating a voluntary
response with a stimulus).

On the other hand, some perspectives can lead to

contradictory approaches, taking away the desire to study,
not participating or not doing homework.

Developmental psycology
Psychology also tries to explain the ways that children establish
basic skills such as reasoning, problem solving, and the use of
language.

The general theories of development that cover these can be

applied to education to help us understand learning situations.

The importance of the theory

We should be able to use theoretical knowledge to help us with
applied areas.
Psychodynamic: Subconscious mind
Behavioural: Conditioned responses to stimuli.
Humanistic: Potential for self-development.
Psychobiological: biological structures and processes / thought
and action
Cognitive: Understand behaviour as the product of processes
