1 Daftar peta There are three definition about procedure texts;

1. Exploring Procedure Text; Manual

 Manual alternatively referred to as documentation or-end-user
documentation, a manual is a book or pamphlet that contains
information about program or piece of hardware.
For example, a computer case may come with documentation
explaining whatsizes of motherboard it can hold, Or, a video
game may come with a manual explaining how to play it.
 Social function of Manual Procedure Text;
 It is used to describe how something is done in sequenced
steps.
 It provides a series of steps in sequence that explain the
readers how to do something while allowing them to reach
the out come successfully.
 The communicative purpose of the text is to tell the steps of
making or doing something.
 Generic Sturcture of Manual
 Goal/Aim; the text describes the purpose of doing operating
something.
 Materials/ equipements; needed in the process of doing or
operating something.
 Step/ Methods; the set of instructionns in order to achieve
the goal.
 Significant Lexico-Grammatical Features
 Generally using simple present tense
 Using adverbial of sequence or using temporal adjective
 Using imperative sentences or command.
 Using action verbs
 Using conjuction to link a process to another process
 Using adverb of time to express details of time.
2. Exploring Procedure Text; Recipe
 Definition of Recipe is a set of instruction for making something
from various ingredients/ a formula or procedure for doing or
attaining something.
 Generic structure of recipe; The structures represent the
information to the reader.
 Social/ Language Function of Recipe;
 Recipe is used to describe how food is completely made or
cooked through a sequence of series.
 Communicative puprpose of recipe is to describe how food is
compeletely made through a sequence of actions or steps.
 Language Features of Recipe;
 Noun or noun groups, Conjuctions, Action Verbs,
Imperatives, Adverbial, Vocabulary, Language, Tenses.

3. Exploring Procedure Text; Itinerary

 Definition of Itinerary is;
 a detailed plan for a journey, especially a list of places to
visit; plan of travel.
 a line of travel; route.
 an account of a journey; record of travel.
 a book describing a route or routes of travel with
information helpful to travelers; guidebook for travelers.
 Generic Structure; Orientation, Complication, Orientation, Coda
 Social/ Language function;
 To make a well- prepared program or travel
 To make an effective journey or travel
 To be a guideline in spending time during travelling.
 Language Features;
 Use simple present tense
 Use Action Verb
 Use simple sentence or phrase

4. News Item Texts

 Definition News item text is a text which informs readers about
events of the day. The events are considered newsworthy or
important. It means if there is an important event that should
be known by many people, then this event deserves news.
Well, the news text is called the news item text. However, if
there are events that people do not deserve, then they are not
definitely worth to be news.
 Generic Structure of News Item
 Main Events / Newsworthy event(s): it recounts the event in
summary form.
 Elaboration / Background event(s): they elaborate what
happened, to whom, in what circumstance
 Resource of Information (Source) : it contains comments by
participants in, witnesses to and authorities expert on the
event

 Social/ Language Function

News Item Text is used to inform readers about events of the
day which are considered newsworthy or important.
Or
 To inform the readers about newsworthy or important events
of the day.
 To present information the readers about newsworthy or
important events of the day
 Language Feature of News Item
 Focusing on circumstances (using a simple language in writing
the text)
 Using saying verbs: “….”, She said, informed, told, reported.
 Sometimes at the beginning of news, the scene is
mentioned : Jakarta – … .. / Kuala Lumpur – …
 Using Past tense in explaining news events. But if it is a fact
that until now still happen or still in the form of fact, then can
use simple present tense.
 Short, telegraphic information about story captured in
headline
 Using adverbs: time, place and manner.
 Uses of material processes to retell the event
