THE IMPORTANCE OF LIBRARY EVOLUTION: LEARNING FROM THE PAST
If the recent histories of libraries and technology organizations alike have taught
us anything, they have taught us that we cannot hold assumptions about how we do our
work. While the goals for what we do may remain quite constant, the nature in which we
do it does not. Assumptions about how we do work in libraries have developed over
centuries with the physical book as a cornerstone.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LIBRARY EVOLUTION: DIGITAL REVOLUTION OF THE

PRESENT
Digital information and networks challenge the core practices of libraries,
archives, and all organizations with intensive information management needs in many
respects—not only in terms of accommodating digital information and technology, but
also through the need to develop new economic and organizational models for
managing information.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LIBRARY EVOLUTION: HOW TECHNOLOGY IS

CHANGING THE FUTURE
As we all know that, one of the major changes we expect to see in academic
libraries is the use of new innovating technologies. That in the very near future we will
be seeing “libraries adapting to accommodate new applications of technology for
learning, research, and information”. This is certainly not something new for academic
libraries - they have had to be adaptive and flexible with new innovations in learning and
research for some time now – but the report specifically references new applications of
technology. Libraries are adapting to fit with a world that is increasingly digital and
although we can explore trends

As a teacher, for your library to be successful, you must acquaint yourself

with the past, the present and the digital future. The origin of the library came
simply from the desire to learn, develop intellectually and find solace in an
environment of like-minded people. Library innovations evolved from the needs
and motivations of each era’s people.
The evolution of the library is nowhere near completion. We see the
technological tides turning constantly, with a new digital device on the horizon
nearly every day. If your library is going to remain relevant in the digital age, you
must learn from library evolution and continue to transform with the times.
ENHANCEMENT
ENHANCING VOCABULARY EVERYDAY: READ MORE, READ DEEPLY
Reading has never killed anyone. Invest in several novels and read them to
increase and enhance your vocabulary. It’s not only the simplest but also the best way
to increase vocabulary. Read anything that you can find – including newspapers,
magazines, and all types of literary works. Expose your brain to more words. Look up
the meaning of new words from the dictionary.

ENHANCING VOCABULARY EVERYDAY: LEARN A NEW WORD EVERY DAY

Learning a new word every day is a good habit. Take time to develop your own
list or schedule of daily words you wish to learn. There are several websites and
calendars that you can use for this purpose. As long as you remain disciplined, you will
soon begin reaping the benefits. If this method feels too rigid, feel free to complement it
with other methods.

ENHANCING VOCABULARY EVERYDAY: PLAY WORD GAMES

To many people, the best way to increase vocabulary involves playing word
games. Play the sort of games that challenge your brain. The world is full of tools you
can use for this purpose. You will never run short of games that you can play offline or
online to improve vocabulary. Numerous websites are rife with games worth playing
too.

As a teacher, nobody can communicate better without working hard to

improve vocabulary. Improving one’s vocabulary has several benefits. For
example, it improves self-confidence and self-esteem. It also enables the addition
of sophistication to one’s spoken or written language. Reading is another great
activity to develop vocabulary. Engaging in conversations and talking kids
through their daily routines is a great way to build vocabulary skills. Concepts
such as body parts are learned through diaper changing, dressing and bath
times.
THE FOX AND THE CROW STORY
On a beautiful morning, the fox strolls sniffing around in the forest. In search of
something to munch on, he spots a crow sitting on a branch of a giant tree. A bite of
cheese held by the crow in its beak catches the attention of the fox. In the first instance,
the fox does not pay much attention. But when he looks at the crow for the second time,
his cunning mind starts thinking of ideas for stealing the cheese bite.

“I need not wander anymore to find my breakfast; who wouldn’t like to have a
piece of yummy cheese,” thinks the sly fox. He walks up to the foot of the tree and tries
to strike a conversation with the crow. “Good morning, you beautiful crow,” said the fox
in a pleasant voice. The crow looks at the fox suspiciously and tightens her grip on the
cheese. She does not respond to fox’s greetings.

Fox continues to flatter the crow, he says:

“What a beautiful bird you are! Such silky and shiny feathers.  You are a bird with
spectacular wings.” The crow falls for it.
The fox notices a change in the crow’s expression and tries to woo her one more
time by saying:
“Such a pretty crow must have a pleasant soothing voice.
Can I request the queen of all birds, crow, to please sing a song for me?”

The initially skeptical crow now forgets all her suspicion and is flattered by the
praise heaped on her by the fox. To utter her loudest caw,
she opens her mouth big and wide.
C-C-C-C-C-A-A-A-A-A-W-W-W-W-W

The cheese falls off the crow’s beak straight down into the fox’s open mouth.
The fox cheekily thanks the crow and walks away, relishing on the cheese.
Before leaving, he also mocks the crow by saying-
“Maybe you have a sweet voice, but where have you lost your wits?”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, remote-learning students are running into
all sorts of barriers to learning. Instructors are seeing that previously learned
study strategies and habits are falling by the wayside as a result of too much
unstructured time and relatively isolated campus living therefore creating
challenges for even the best-equipped and disciplined students. With the triple
(SSS) as a guide for your study skills.

MAINTAINING A GOOD STUDY SKILLS DURING COVID-19: STAY CONNECTED

TO OTHERS.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed with assignments and course requirements when
doing them independently. Students might want to keep track of important dates and
course milestones for each class in a single chart or spreadsheet, noting how the
remote classes are held and including links to lectures and office hours for handy
retrieval.

MAINTAINING A GOOD STUDY SKILLS DURING COVID-19: STAY ORGANIZED.

It’s easy for students to feel isolated and cut off from other people in this COVID
learning environment. In-person, face-to-face communications may be limited, so
staying in touch with instructors, classmates and peers is very important to student
learning and success. Let students know to call or do video chats with friends and
family. Use hangouts apps to connect with classmates. And encourage students to visit
instructors’ during virtual office hours, if necessary.

MAINTAINING A GOOD STUDY SKILLS DURING COVID-19: SWAP OUT STUDY

STRATEGIES.
The old study routines from pre-COVID semesters may no longer work. Students
can adapt usual habits for the new situation or develop entirely new strategies. For
instance, if a student previously preferred to study in a library or coffee shop, he or she
might want to try re-creating that environment in a dorm room by studying in a chair
rather than at a desk, or listen to music, if background noise helps him or her hit the
books. Phone-based or virtual study sessions can help students who like to study in
groups.
