Marks: 30 December-2020 Tim B. Tech. IV, Electrical, 7" Sem. Switchgear & Protection End-Semester Exam Hrs PART -B Instructions: a) Total time( 2 Hrs) for the exam includes the time to upload the answer sheets. (ii) Name the file as per your Roll Number. (iii) The students can email the scanned copy of answer sheets to hrj@eed.svnit.ac.in and to pk@eed.svnit.ac.in in the given time. (iv) Students can upload the answer sheets in google classroom/MS team also. (v) Incase of any problem while uploading answer sheets, contact subject teachers immediately. ‘Attempt all questions. (Assume data with justification, if required) ‘A LL KV, 50 Hz alternator is connected to system which has inductance and capacitance per phase of 7 mH and 0.015 pF respectively. Determine, (a) if it is solidly grounded and (b) if it is resonant grounded, (i) the maximum voltage across the breaker contacts; (ii) frequency of transient oscillation; (iii) the average RRRV; and (iv) the maximum RRRV. Calculate also the inductance and KVAR rating of resonant grounding coil ‘A 3ephase alternator is rated for 20 MVA, 6.6 kV and subtransient reactance Xa" = j0.15 pa. The altemator feeds a motor through a 3-eycle CB and a line with impedance of 0.1 p.u. on alternator rating. The motor is rated at $ MVA and 6.6 kV with Xq"= 0.2 p.u. on the motor base. The voltage at the terminal of the motor is | p.u. and takes a load current of | p.u. at unity p.f. A symmetrical fault occurs at motor terminals. Determine the asymmetrical and symmetrical breaking capacity of the CB. Also determine the making capacity of the CB. How to diagnose whether circuit breaker has withstood or not withstood the power frequency test and impulse voltage test. List the sequence of operation for breaking capacity test of CB using synthetic type testing station. Draw the connection diagram of percentage differential relay used to protect delta/star transformer. Show the path of fault current by bold lines (i) ifan intemal ground fault occurs on phase A. (ii) if an extemal ground fault occurs on phase ‘A. (Consider ABC system) (For odd admission numbers) (i) ifan internal ground fault occurs on phase B. (ji) if an external ground fault occurs on phase B. (Consider ABC system) (For even admission numbers) 6 A 15.75 kV, 200 MW, Y-connected, 3 phase, 0.85 pf generator is grounded by a neutral ‘grounding resistance of Rg ohm connected across the secondary of NGT 15.75 kV/240 V. If a relay is connected across the neutral resistance (rated at 240 V) and normal 3 harmonic generation of a generator is 3% of the rated voltage, find out the setting of a relay (setting range is 2 to 8 % in seven equal steps). If the relay has normal inverse voltage-time characteristics with 3x TMS log PSM Find the time of operation of the relay for an R-g fault 25% winding from the line terminal. Also, find the earth-fault current. Assume TMS to be 0.2 Rg = 1.0 for odd admission numbers 1.2 for even admission numbers Time of operation = A single line diagram of a simple radial feeder is shown in figure below. Calculate the relay settings of all the IDMT relays. Consider the time margin of 0.25 second between two relays. The TMS setting is available in a multiple of 0.05. The other relevant data is as follows: Setting range of plug-setting = 50-200 % of | A in seven equal steps Setting of relay Rd; PS = 100% of CT sec rating, TMS = 0.1 (for odd admission numbers) Setting of relay R4: PS = 75% of CT sec rating, TMS = 0.1 (for even admission numbers) The relay has normal inverse voltage-time characteristics with 3x7MS log, PSM Explain the effect of source impedance on the performance of IDMT relay with remedy.
