Social, Political, Economic, and Cultural issues in Philippine History

Topic/Lesson

1. Difficult Concepts (What concepts did you find difficult to understand?)

i. Benefits of Agrarian reform to the development of Philippines and its farmers
ii. The constitution and how it helped develop the country.
iii. The creation of the tax systems of the Philippines and how it is based

2. Insights (What new insights or learnings did you gain in discussion/ activity?)

i. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that Agrarian reform is focus on
helping the local farmers of the country. However, reading the article/understanding the
lesson, I now think/realize that the reform focusses on assisting the farmers in redistribution of
agricultural land and assisting the countryside farmers by promoting social equity and new
economic opportunities. This helps assist the farmers in gaining modern technology and more
in order to help the farmers of the Philippines to be globally competitive.
ii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought the constitution contains the
laws of overall responsibilities of allindividuals However, reading the article/understanding
the lesson, I now think/realize that the constitution is created so that to create a government
with enough power to act on a national level, but without so much power that fundamental
rights would be at risk. Including which the constitution contains 3 sectors which is legislative,
judiciary, and executive.
iii. Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought our tax system was a mere
copy from foreigners or the colonizers. However, reading the article/understanding the
lesson, I now think/realize that the tax system of our country has so many factors or kinds
of taxes such as regular corporate income tax, individual income tax, value added tax, and
excise tax. Including which the train law wherein this helps with the employees with a low
income wage so that the amount they will pay for tax would be lessen or none at all
although it will affect the consumable price cause of tax.

3. Questions (What questions would you want answers for? Or vague areas you want more
explanations about?)
i. The Agrarian reform could it be updated to the point to keep up with all the changes that is
occurring so that the farmers may have an increase on their income from their hardwork?
ii. What is the purpose of having different sectors of the constitution, why can’t it be one will
manage it all so there won’t be confusion or corruption in a different sector?
iii. A lot of taxes that are being taken from the citizens, will the government provide a list on
how are the taxes are being used?
4. Clarification (What are the areas of the text that are still unclear to you?)
i. Is it only Agrarian reform the only law that helps the farmers, should there be more or better to
improve our farmers work?
ii. If the constitution, could be change in order to improve the country and solve the problems of
corruption or abuse of power
iii. There are a lot of taxes in our country, although why does our country still need borrow huge
amounts of money from other countries
