Answer the following questions below. Use the space provided for your
answers.

1. Based on the pictures, identify the services that the BHW provides
for every client.

The pictures show two of the services offered by the Barangay Health
Centers. Three of them depict prenatal services and one shows
consultation.

Prenatal services

As the pictures show, prenatal services are given to expecting mothers

to receive care from the barangay health workers, doctors, nurses, or
midwives throughout their pregnancy. This is to keep both them and their
babies healthy and free from health risks. The frequency of visits depends
on how far along the pregnancy is or how high the risks are.

Consultation

On the other hand, consultations are done to cater to the needs of an

individual seeking medical assistance. During consultations, barangay health
workers will be interviewing clients about their chief complaints, the kind and
onset of symptoms, medications, and relief. Vital signs will then be checked
before their numbers are given to be cued for a doctor’s check-up.
2. In your own understanding, who do you think are the people who
seek medical attention thru BHC and why?

As I have watched the video played earlier in class, the speaker

mentioned that BHCs utilize a comprehensive and holistic approach to the
care of patients. Thus, I think BHCs cater to diverse patients of the masses
such as pregnant mothers, people with chronic diseases, patients who got bit
by animals, families who are sick, people who need immunizations, and many
more. Additionally, as BHCs are non-profit and for the masses, individuals,
families, and communities who are short on financial resources can utilize the
free services offered by the centers. There are also people who live in
far-flung areas with limited access to healthcare. Thus, they go to the centers
to seek medical attention.

3. Identify 3 advantages of a barangay health center based on the services

they offer.

There are three services offered by the BHCs that were discussed
today, and those are consultations, animal bite services, and prenatal
services. Based on those, I could say that (1) BHCs utilize a systematic
process of providing medical assistance to those in need through a queueing
method. This is notably important given that individuals with diverse health
conditions always go to the centers in huge numbers. Additionally, (2)
Common community health issues and emergencies can be addressed
in the centers such as rabies, the need for first aid, and immunizations. Lastly,
(3) BHCs give care to the masses and can therefore give medical attention
to a wide variety of patients throughout the care continuum whatever the
age or gender be. Unlike private health institutions, BHCs offer inexpensive
healthcare services that can benefit even those who are struggling financially
and are located in remote areas.
